Isn't that illegal? Tampering with consumer items and all. By no means can I even stand Hilton, but christ, if I were buying something I wanted, and someone fucked with a bunch of them before I bought it, I'd be fucking pissed. This guy sounds like a total schmuck. As much as I can't stand Hilton, I hope she sues the shit out of this moron.

Yeah I'm with DevilzFan on this one.I don't like Paris but I'm not one to do something like this.As it seems pretty childish to me

If I buy something I don't want it to be tampered with.I want it to be EXACTLY what I bought.Which is a consumers right

But if people aren't complaining, then there's not much to be done

    It's called art, you knuckle-dragging troglodyte. He's making a socio-political statement.

I'm sure they have those where you live.

That's not the point. It's any CD, or any product. Tampering with things is illegal. We don't like Paris Hilton, so it's okay?

Its not we hate Paris Hilton, but more like we love Banksy.

Seriously, you go around London, and everyso often you come across a piece of Graffiti and you know its a Banksy. He did one based on a Pulp fiction poster in Angel, instead of guns Travolta and L have bananas. It got covered by some other graffiti (just a big tag) and a few months later Banksy's image was back, but tweaked.

Or the painted window with the TV being thrown out. And yeah, I see where its illegal, but you can't seriously say that hia doctored versions will affect her CD sales. If you were lucky enough to pick up one of his edited versions... well it'll be worth a fortune later.

Shit, I might go out and look for a doctored one in HMV.

Normally I find such "art" tacky and pretentious, but since it's a mockery of Paris Hilton I'll accept it this time.

I've gotta agree with the Ferret on this one. Banksy is voicing his opinion and making a point by using some artistic subterfuge. Why does it classify as art? Well, if we take a primary definition of art:

...and pare it down to this: "The expression of something that is of more than ordinary significance,"

We have a baseline explanation of what Banksy is doing - he is expressing himself in a manner different from the ordinary. Now, the context - changing a piece of source work - has been referred to as art time and again. Now, I see some similarities between making art from a piece of cardboard and this, but I acknowledge that there's some difference in this case; obviously, this dude is re-using or replacing source copies of Hilton's CD with his own. However, this type of subterfuge has been, in recent years, referred to as Guerilla Art; although it might involve some property damage in its execution, the end result is an artistic statement that is difficult to refute.

Dismissing this as "childish" seems like a copout; have you taken the time to consider the statement Banksy is making about Paris Hilton? Even without listening to the source album or the Banksy remixes, I can ascertain that he's trying to make a statement that is difficult to refute - Hilton is shallow, useless and uninteresting. He hasn't hurt anyone in his bait & switch, he's delivering his point to society and he's made a nice little artistic statement in the process. In my opinion, that's pretty cool art.

So doing something illegal to make "art" makes it ok?
