Yeah, I think my friend once told me that A Levels are alot like SAT's for us. But our college is like their high school. Or something.

GCSEs are at 16, A levels at 18-19, then university.

I have four A Levels and I passed on Uni to go and earn money instead. Terrible decision.

    Short summary of UK education:

Students finish mandatory schooling at 16, when they get their GCSEs. They then have the option of a further 2-3 years at college/sixth form, studying A-levels (in the first year, 5 AS-levels, 3/4 of which will be pursued as A-levels in the second years). Entry to university is conditional on final A-level grades.

Today is the day the big A-level results are out - either mailed to former students, or they go and collect them from wherever they studied. The futures of a lot of 18/19-year-olds in England & Wales are decided today!

So ... first you go to college, and then you go to university?

Here in the US, we just go to college, which may or may not be a university.

It's more like the last couple of years of high school, to compare like-for-like. A lot of students these days will go to a college that is actually part of their previous school. It's more like an optional extra two years at school, really.

To make it even more confusing, some Universities have colleges, but not like 6th form college.

Well done to all who got the grades. Highest results ever. Again!

This probably means there will be lots of drunk 18 year olds in town tonight. Which will be part amusing, part lecherous and part lots of dickheads ringing my doorbell at half five in the morning.

God, despite being the biggest Floyd fan going, I haven't seen that in many, many years. What an awesome flashback.

Shame UK schools aren't still like that (to a certain degree), it would sort out the little bastards.
