I'd seen this before on some concept art in featurettes on walls in offices of Hasbro and ILM but this is the first time I could get a clear shot of the logo. It appears that the original title for the first film contained the subtitle The Movie. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but could anyone clarify this for me?

EDIT: I also found some shots from BotCon 07' depicting some toy concept art and prototype images at seibertron.com. Here's one:

Yeah, back when the live action movie was first announced and they started the hype for it, there was a LOT of G1-ish styled promotion tied with it. They did this sort of stuff - calling it "The Movie" and using the G1 text logo - and of course there was the now infamous giant G1 Optimus Prime semi truck parked at SDCC '05 or '06 with a huge black announcement banner draped over it.

All of that is what contributed a lot to the controversy of what happened with the character designs & style that we ultimately got: Hasbro, Dreamworks & Paramount used all this G1 imagery at the beginning and a lot of people naturally assumed that's what we should expect... then the real designs showed up and people lost their shit.

I hadn't seen that before. But I think the back of the trailer looks like the poster I added.

I like the mudflaps! Why would they use a truck like that? To misinform?

Because it was THE most iconic & recognizable version of the character (and overall franchise) at that time that would undoubtedly get people hyped up, and it was still an entire year before they even started shooting the movie or finalized all the designs.

I highly doubt it was intentionally meant to misinform, but it definitely did mislead most people once 2006 rolled around and we got our first looks at the finalized designs.

LOL OP84 that stuff takes me baaack. I dowloaded the teaser Autobot/Decepticon posters in 2006, before the official ones were released by DreamWorks.

I also recall a statue of a giant Transformer hand crushing a car. Wonder what became of it... Back then TF was the bleep and it was getting up speed to take over as the next big franchise. Fast-forward, and now, well, it IS a big hit, but it's also been Razzie-nominated... :(

Anyhow, your interest in pre-2007 TFilm stuff is very enlightening and interesting to see. I especially like that TFilm Ratchet toy with the stretcher as a shield, why couldn't they use that?

Actually, do you know what type of truck it is because I'd like to look it up.

Do you have a link to those posters? But anyway, yeah, I never got into Transformers until the first film came out, so it's very interesting to see all of these things that DW and Paramount was putting out there for the sake of hype. Only 5 years later from the first film, I know almost everything there is to know about Transformers.

I have no idea. I've seen that model a lot in real life, I just don't know what the actual make / brand name is.

What's interesting is that Bay & co. DID try to use a G1-ish styled truck when developing the first movie, but changed the model from flat to long nose because it allowed Optimus to be even bigger in bot mode. They felt that the flat nose just didn't give the height or bulk that they wanted for a live action version of him.

Damn, that covered truck brings back memories of the good times when many people still had hope for these films.

Maybe it wasn't meant to mislead but regardless it did.

Yep. Transforms from water to urine and back. But hopefully not the same way.

Gotta love that yellow repaint. The red-tinged repaint is less popular.

There was a ton of really interesting stuff back before what became the first film settled out. There was a long period where noone knew what to expect at all, and I really liked that.
