I believe it is contributing to the downfall of society and the destruction of the English language.

It also annoys the hell out of me.

Even when I text on my phone, I spell everything out.

The only time I used that stuff while texting was when I was pressed for time and typing on a key pads is a hassle and then I still felt dumb. Now I have an iPhone and there is no excuse.

'Text speak' is something that never, ever comes naturally to me. Like DevilzFan, I always type my words out in full.

That's why people need to do what I did. Get a phone that flips open with a regular keyboard inside.

    This...

I find that it takes me longer to decipher what the hell the people are trying to say than it's really worth.

But maybe I just don't "get it". I am 25 after all, practically a dinosaur in the technological age.

I text a LOT. The worst I ever do is "lol". I will never purposely misspell a word, or abbreviate it, or convert it to text speak... And luckily nobody I know uses it either.

Most phones now have T9. Thats very useful, it eliminates the need for text speak.

    This.

And also this. If you've got something you want people to pay any attention to, take the time to say it properly. If someone was gibbering at you in "text speak" in the pub, you wouldn't listen to them. Why expect any different online?

I text messages on my cell phone from time to time. But I do abbreviate my words...just like everyone else pointed out, I too spell everything out. It entirely frustrates me when people write or speak to me in "text speak".

I rarely text message on my cell (only in case of a emergency). And like most people, I type my words entirely.

This. Or as Dark_Convoy said, a Blackberry.

Way more polite than the response I was going to put.

More than anything, it's incredibly annoying.
