You are a whole day late on this. My dad was cop over there, said it happens a lot. I told him about it, "there was shooting at the Empire State Building" and he goes "was it a fight between co-workers, because that happens all the time" :lol .

Everyone on facebook yesterday was posting pics of the scene from their office windows, helicopters and shit.

In the article it says that the gunman was shooting blindly at civilians, but from the various articles, and news reports that I have seen, stated that the people that were injured probably got shot (accidentally) by the police.

    Could be wrong though.

Just to put this in perspective: according to the CDC, there were 11,493 firearm-related homicides in the US in 2009. That's about 31 every day. Stories like these get headlines due to their location, but we generally don't hear about the vast majority of shootings.

I know it's probably an issue of media attention, but man, at this point it seems like the U.S. should just hang a sign at the border that says "Welcome to the United States of America! It has been XX days since our last shooting!"

People act like the USA is going down the shitter. America has always been like this, lol!

It's only because of modern technology/social media, etc. that we hear about EVERY event like this - and moments after it happens.

Curious as to why the year long wait. Was it an "anniversary thing"? Unemployment run out? Or what?

I'm sure that's on the horizon but honestly, the only people it'd effect would be those who actually obtain and own guns legally, in most cases also responsibly. I didn't notice anyone mention the 19 people shot in Chicago around the same time, a city which has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country (in fact owning/possessing a handgun in the city limits is illegal).
