By request from several of my fellow boardmembers, here's the tutorial on how to make a Titans Return Grimlock figure.

    Things you'll need:

    1) Titans Return Clobber figure.

    2) Target Exclusive G1 deco'ed FOC Grimlock. (or any version of the FOC Grimlock mold)

    3) Superglue with a brush applicator for more precise application.

    4) A power drill with a 3/16" drill bit.

    5) Titans Master port from Titans Return Galvatron. For info on how to remove it and glue the two halves of it together, please see this thread:

    TR Galvatron Mask Mod

    6) A small wire cutter (aka diagonal pliers)

    7) An exacto hobby knife for trimming and smoothing the large cutout areas of plastic.

    8) A sharpie brand metallic gold marker

Step #1-- Remove the stock FOC Grimlock head by removing the two screws in the back. Use a small set of wire cutters (aka diagonal pliers) to snip off the ball joint for the head. Using your 3/16" drill bit drill a hole in the torso being sure to remove all of the raised area where the "neck" originally was. This will give you a curved starting point to insert the port from TR Galvatron. It will look like this when you're done with Step 1:

Step #2-- Using your wire cutters, cut out a "U" shaped piece of plastic using the front of your drilled hole as a guide. (see blue outline in the pictures below) BE CAREFUL to start out small with your "U" shape. You don't want to cut it too big right off the bat. Keep inserting the port from TR Galvatron (insert it backwards with the pin facing the back of your Grimlock figure. You'll see why below) into the "U" shaped cutout to use trial and error to figure out how much plastic needs to be cut out:

There is a lip directly under the blue circled area of the Titan Master port. Only cut out enough plastic so that there is enough left for it to tuck under the lip and hold the port in place:

Once you have the "U" shaped cutout the size you need, use your exacto knife and the side of your drill bit to smooth out the area nicely.

Step #3-- Brush some Superglue into the lip on the Titanmaster port to secure it to the figure. Slide it into place. Paint the outside of it gold with your sharpie marker. Once your done, the port will look like this:

Why were you inserting the port backwards with the pin at the back of your Grimlock figure? So that the pin will fill in some of the missing plastic (see blue circled area) that you had to remove to cut your "U" shape:

Here is what your finished product will look like:

Totally thinking about doing this, though may want to find a way to add a port without cannibalising Galvatron! (Probably using one of the ports from a Titan Master vehicle.)

I got lucky. A fellow boardmember who customized their TR Galvatron didn't need the port anymore.

a bit of advice: Because of the way it's angled off, you can't use the port that comes with Clobber.

If you have the extra bucks to cannibalize an extra TR Galvatron, then by all means do it. Totally worth it.

I would assume that there's more than one way to skin a cat and another port from one of the small Titan Master figures or a port from a Titans Return Deluxe could be substituted.

This looks AMAZING! Way better looking than the Retro-Rex kit.

Nice. I'm heading to the hardware store with a titan master hoping to find an inexpensive option for the port.

    Great job on this.

I was looking to Titanize this figure as well, but I didn't want to cut him up. I wish I had more than one. You did a nice job showing your work, thanks.

Lemme know what diameter you want the base to be and I could probably get you one pretty cheap if you want.

Thanks to everyone for all of he kind words.

I always thought the Retro Rex kit was cool. Until I did this modification. The headsculpt for TR Clobber is much, much better than Retro Rex.

Looks really good, adds a nice G1 touch to the Target exclusive Grimlock without shelling out for 3P.

Is there any of the titan master that have the standard head port? Id rather scrap a $5 toy over a $15-25 one.

It seems like the Titan Master ports all toy-specific and they would require more modification.

Nice work, head seems a tad small but not too bad.

Yep. Still transforms perfectly with or without the headmaster still attached.

    Thanks.

You're right. The head is a little small. This was my only (minor) gripe with this mod. However, since the original pictures were taken, I moved the Headmaster arms away from the head a little bit. It widens up the head and makes it look better.
