A trypticon toy has been on my list for a while as one of those I never got when I was a kid. Now that my budget is about to exist again in small ways I'm looking at picking one up. Then I noticed Giga storm. What are the differences between these toys? Are there any quality issues I should be aware of?

He doesn't have all the accessories, if I recall.

    From TFU.info...

    Trypticon
    Gigastorm

    Differences -
    - Different paint applications on Gigastorm.
    - 'Horn' molded onto Gigastorm's snout in place of the gun on Trypticon.
    - Gigastorm only comes with the little car partner and none of the other accessories (city pieces, battle station pieces, tank) that are included with Trypticon.

Honestly, I've got Trypticon and I'd highly recommend holding out for the G1 original release over Gigastorm. Those extra accessories that Trypticon has add a lot of play value to the figure and, really, the city mode is pretty much useless without them.

I only have gigastorm (bought it on these boards awhile ago from Mr. Roboto actually) and I must say he's pretty cool... considering you can find a korean version that's the same quality for cheaper than g1 i'd say go with gigastorm! :D

Owning both, im going with Trypticon. Pretty much the same reaon Scantron mentioned.

For the price though Gigastorm was a good deal.

Gigastorm's price is what makes him so tempting, but the original comes with all his city parts. His two alt modes are pretty puny without the tank (battle station mode just wouldn't be the same without the huge cannon!)

I'd suggest holding out and seeing if a decent Trypticon appears at a good price. I got mine, complete with all electronics working, for around $120 or so. If you're patient, you'll probably find a better deal than that!

Trypticon is easily better, it comes with all the city peices, which you need to buy seperatly for gigastorm. So wait to find a good Trypticon

I debated this too. I decided on a complete vintage Trypticon. (my latest addition BTW) I set me back $121 but well worth it. fully complete, all electronics work and C8-9 shape...pure love :D
I really don'y like the horn on Gigastorm. Not to mention all the accsesories. Save up for Tryppy, he's well worth it.

I looked into this last year. Definitely go with Trypta-babes.

Now, if I could only find one for a good price...

    Ebay:
It should be obvious that Trypticon is the superior version of the toy. But if money is the issue, Gigastorm will more than suffice.

I bought Giga and then purchased just a few of Trips loose pieces off eBay. I didn't get them all - just the ones I needed to make him look like a city. Frankly, the ramps were the most important thing for me.

back before I got Trypticon I was considering Gigastorm before I realized all the major differences. I held out and got a great deal on one that was pretty much right out of the box fresh. Go with Trypticon!

Thanks for all the input folks. I've been looking on ebay and it looks like I can get a Trypticon missing accessories for the same price as giga storm, which really puts the prices into focus. I'll be waiting for a good deal and grabbing tryp.
