    Can anybody recommend a good paint shade or technique to create a rust effect? I'd imagine drybrushing with brown, but if you have any specifics to share, please do. Thanks!

    I think I've read that people glue sand to it for the texture part. Then, I'd assume it's dry brushing with multiple colors - brown, copper and I presume Testors/Tamaya/GW/etc would have a rust color.

    Here's a post that uses a rust/antiquing kit from the craft store:

    EDIT - beat to the punch by a minute. =)

    Here is a post from Frenzy_Rumble where he mentioned mixing sand with his paints:

    Baking soda over super glue for texture, and painting over top of it.

    some craft stores sell rust kits. I used it on this Grimlock a while back ;

    nowadays, I just paint in the rust. If I want texture to it, I apply that (thick paint) under my base coat. a dark orange seems to be my base color for the rust areas, with washes of dark brown and highlights of light brown.

    That is my Cosmic Rust Ironhide, and I used the technique and product in that tutorial. I suggest that if you have a Micheal's around so you can pick it up.

    my honest opinion? what i do sometimes is either lightly go over areas i want to rust with either a soldering iron or a lighter (depending on the plastic) then drybrush silver and rust brown mixtures

    Thanks, guys. Looks like more than anything I need to go invest in and try out some brown shades. Those junkions aren't going to ruin themselves.
