If I want to watch the show where " G1 Jetfire" originated from, what series do I need to watch for?
I know that the G1 toy comes from the Macross series. But, where does the actual "character" come from?
I've noticed Itunes has released several classic anime's previous to Transformers. Example, they have Macross II, and Robotech. Which series should I look for to find the origins of Jetfire?
I'm asking cause I've noticed in pictures both series have similar "machines".

    Macross. Just normal Macross.

Robotech is an odd blend of Macross and other series. so it would be in there, but the true origin is in Macross.

and there is no "character" origin to jetfire outside of Transformers. the VF-1S that Jetfire's toy uses the mold of is a piloted vehicle. not sentient.

Thank you Valkysas. I do recall they were piloted. Instead of "character" I probably should have said "vehicle"?
Itunes does not yet have Macross, but they do have Macross II. Same thing or different? I'm debating which series to get from Itunes.

G1 series, season 1 I believe. He was a scientist working with Starscream, apparently studying an alien planet called Earth, when he was betrayed by a then just-defecting Screamers, when he became encased in the local artic ice after being blasted.

If you're looking for the first appearance of the Transformers Jetfire character, that is..

Robotech isnt the "original" Macross, if that's what you're saying.

Macross is not the same thing as Macross II, thus the "II".

If you want to see the original Jetfire toy stomping around in a cartoon, then yes, either "Super Dimension Fortress Macross" or (the first thirty-six epsodes of) "Robotech" (which is the modified English dub of "Macross") is what you want to watch.

    Your a bit mixxed up.

Yes they were both scientist/ explores studying Earth, but Starscream did not betray Skyfire.

A storm came by and burried him.

Starcream searched for a long time but could not find him.

Starscream was the one who revived him after I think it was Skywarp and Rumble who actually found "Skyfire". Skyfire actually betrayed Starscream when he switched to the Autobot's side.

There are, of course, some pretty big differences between Robotech and Macross, story-wise, but you can read Wikipedia to learn about that. If you just want to see the robot smashin' stuff up, watch either! :)  But, just so you know in case you don't, in those shows, "Jetfire" is just a mass-produced mech operated by human pilots, called a Valkyrie or a Veritech.

If you don't want to spend money on watching Robotech or Macross, go to Hulu. They've got both series there, (although Macross is the recent English dub version instead of the original Japanese) and you can watch for free. Here, I'll even give you a link: Hulu - Search

You should watch Macross instead of Robotech unless it's 1985 and you don't have any way of knowing that Macross exists as a separate show. If it's not in fact 1985, there's really no reason to watch Robotech.

I've always preferred the G1 Marvel comic Jetfire origin myself.

If I recall, in Macross, Captain Gloval had a hangover in he pilot episode, where in Robotech ehe was just grumpy about the ceremony of the launch.
