    New True Grit movie

Couldn't find any threads already made about this, so I decided to start one.

Movie Talk: Iconic John Wayne Role Redone

Actually sounds like it should be a good movie, and it's nice to know that it's not going to be a straight remake. Not sure how m father (big JW fan) will react to this bit of news, but I imagine he'll want to go see it either way. Jeff Bridges is really the only actor I can think of that could pull off a good John Wayne impression/vibe.

Yeah, Bridges would be good. Thomas Haden Church would be awesome too. He was great in Broken Trail.

My dad was talking to a friend after he first heard they were remaking True Grit. They were trying to think of who could play Rooster Cogburn, and my dad said he thought Jeff Bridges could probably pull it off. Good guess!

Both the teaser and theatrical trailers look great. It'll never replace the original, but it looks like it'll be a good movie all on it's own, and a good take on the book. Would be great if they released a 2-pack DVD containing both this and the original version. I could always borrow my father's copy of the original (huge JW fan, and has the majority of his movies that have seen release on DVD), but it would be nice to be able to have a copy of my own.

Saw the trailer for the remake of the John Wayne movie True Grit, the remake stars Jeff Bridges as Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne's role) and Matt Damon as La Bouf (Glenn Campbell's role).

I'm not real sure how I feel about them remaking a John Wayne movie, not to mention with Jeff Bridges playing John Wayne's role.

    So what does everyone think?

I feel ya man, just got finished watching the original, I have doubts that the new one will do as well.

I haven't seen the original (I'll have to fix that soon), but when I saw the preview I was pretty excited to see it. Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are all great actors and the Cohen Brothers rarely disappoint, so I'm confident that they'll make it interesting.

The old one, while great, is still campy at heart. This new one definitely looks 'grittier'. I'm eagerly anticipating the remake.

They are great actors, but you just don't touch a John Wayne movie.

The original, while very good, wasn't a very faithful adaptation of the original novel (it was framed more into a "John Wayne"-type of movie).

The new version by the Coen Brothers goes directly by the novel (more violent, darker, "grittier") and, so far, is getting rave reviews.

Honestly for me i see no reason this movie should have been remade other than Hollywood wanted to cash in. Given that its a western the advances in movie making tech don't bring enough new effects to make much of a difference. also as it is often considered one of John Wayne's best films it should have been left alone.

Cash in on who, exactly? "Real" John Wayne fans most probably don't want to see this because it "rapes their childhood," and today's kids aren't exactly wild about Westerns. Quite frankly, the genre is dead.

But yeah, let's keep this idea going of the monolith Hollywood that only wants to needlessly remake movies, rather the real facts that a select group of individuals thought this would be a good idea to bring to life a classic for a new generation with proven talent behind it. Honestly, I get if this was a McG movie with Jack Black and Megan Fox as leads, but it isn't. It's a Coen Brothers with freakin Jeff Bridges and Josh Brolin. That's just awesome in my book.

Can't wait for the day that Star Wars or Jaws is remade, the internet will implode.
