I just bought a new power supply, and before installing it into my PC i wanted to test it. So right out of the box, I plugged it into wall... and nothing. No Lights (its got an LED in it). No Fan... nothing.

So does it have to have it atleast plugged into the mobo?

You only need to plug in 2 cables to test it 3 cables at max with the pc no need to mount it in the case, plug the 24pin and the 4 pin in and if your video card requires additional power plug that in also and turn the machine on
