i have a couple *.avi movies and when i uses Divx it plays them fine, except every 10 min or so the video freezes and the audio continues. after about 20 seconds or so the video catches up but it's annoying to try and watch them with the screen freezing all the time. is there a setting that can be changed to fix that? or do i need to download a different player to play my *.avi movies?

Judging by what you wrote, you're using a DivX player on a home comp. So when it starts to skip or freeze, it's mostly codecs giving you a hard time. Uninstall them, and then reinstall them or find newer versions and install them.

    Try VLC it plays anything.

Or try perian or CCCP(combined comunity codec project) for the newest versions of the codecs.

VLC works wonders for me. And you can watch DVDs on it.
