MTME you really stabbed my heart there. I thought there was news of this show returning or something.

This show is cancelled. Not ended, cancelled. You can find the episodes online with some snooping. Rinzler doesn't actually show up, obviously one of the things they had left to explain. The season is eighteen episodes, and the season finale was a big fat cliffhanger for an awesome second season we'll never get.

Actually, here's some recent news regarding Tron: Uprising. Essentially, it adds up to a whole lot of non-news, but some Disney desk-jockey mentions Tron: Uprising, so there's that.

It's a really long article, so here's the pertinent piece:

Disney XD’s visually impressive and pricey animated series “Tron: Uprising,” based on the films, struggled to attract the channel’s core viewers of 6- 11-year-old boys. The series’ tone appealed more to an older audience that isn’t yet watching the channel.

“It did well with many segments of the audience, but missed some of the key demos,” DeBenedittis says. “It’s one of those examples where if the bull’s-eye is the Disney brand, and you go into the other rings, you take some risks in missing the magic of the bull’s-eye. (“Tron: Uprising” took the right risk and we created a show to be so proud of, but it hit the secondary ring of the target.”)

With a sequel to “Tron: Legacy” in the works at the studio, Disney Channels plans to eventually bring back “Tron,” but it may not be returning as the same show, DeBenedittis says.

At no point does Mr. "Senior VP of programming strategy for Disney Channels Worldwide" own the fact that marketing this show to 6 year olds and bouncing it around a relatively late night (for 6yr olds anyway) time-slot was a dumb move.

They moved it to the late night slot because they realized kids weren't watching anyway, so they figured they'd run out the string in a timeslot for older viewers.

They showed 6 episodes, had good ratings, ran on the web and main disney channel as well as xd, ran out of episodes, delayed 4 to 6 months(can't remember exact amount), brought the series back only on disney xd, advertised poorly that it was back, aired 5 eps, changed the day it aired, delayed again, ratings far below first 6(no one knew it was on) Those that did had to go online to find episodes half the time, then decided the show was bad and put the remaining ones on at midnight. Stopped hosting them on the web.

Once again a series is a victim of releasing episodes before they had enough in the can to maintain an audience. And when the ratings go bad(because a rerun doesn't do well anymore, and it's months between episodes) the audience loses interest, a good series gets cancelled.

It's usually this or poor toy sales that end series these days.

A series can't stand on 6 episodes, there need to be at least 12 or preferably a full season before a long break, and when it comes back you need to advertise on multiple channels and keep airing it in the same time slot.

In case you guys haven't heard, Tron: Uprising is now streaming on Netflix. I still really want a blu ray release of this, but this will hold me over for the time being.

Found this online concerning episodes 20 & 21 (season2). The episodes were written by series writer Bill Wolkoff:

Tron: Uprising (Season 2) - Idea Wiki

Ultimatum (parts 1&2): Following the arrival of Clu, he and Tesler begin the first stage of their master plan by transporting a mysterious device into Argon. After failing to apprehend it, Tesler activates the device at Argon Square which then immobilizes all the programs in Argon City.

So should it air or find itself direct to DVD...the series would pick up right where it left off.

I was hoping this would be news of a bluray release, it's unlikely we will see a season 2

For those interested, the score composer for the show (and for Legacy w/ Daft Punk) put up a free download of cut tracks from the soundtrack. Worth a listen; I'm loving it.
