I took a couple pics of Japan's G1 Minerva, and repaint them into looking like G1 Nightbeat. I guess I have a lot more to learn, LOL! Anyone give me some pointers, or perhaps do better? I've got the orignials, and the Nightbeat-remakes, all here.

    Thanks for your help.

well we can't all start at the top, learn from what you did, and try again, try to do things differently, that is what art is all about, trial and error.

No, Minerva is the recolored version of Nightbeat for Japan G1 (or vice-versa). And I was hoping someone could redo those 2 pics I showed better than I could, actually. Thought an animated Nightbeat would look cool (yes, there's the 1988 U.S. toy-commerical toon of the Headmaster Jrs., including Nightbeat, but...).

I could, But if you want i can give you some step by step pointers so you can do it and learn a little more about PS. It "easy" once you know what to play around with.

This is just a quick job

Maybe you could do both? Do one of the 2 yourself, then give me pointers on how to do the other? Nice job on the pic you showed, BTW.

Thought I'd chip in some (very) rough technique - I'm by no means any good at this and quickly did this whilst at a loose end at work.

I used GIMP, but it should be the same in Photoshop.

I made many copies of the base picture as new layers. Then for each colour change (e.g. white to blue) I used the colorise tool to make it the new colour and fiddled with contrast and lightness to make it look better. Then I used the erase tool to carefully erase all of the layer except the parts I wanted to remain the new colour.

I did a layer for blue, one for the yellow and one for the turqoise face.

It's pretty crap looking, but with better quality pics and a bit more time and patience it could work as a digi-repainting technique.

Ooops, that's why you should never try to do obscure characters from memory!
