I have had this thing for a few years and had no idea what the devil it was. The only thing I had to go on was a price sticker on the leg where somebody had scribbled the word "Tribot", and the TM stamp that simply said "TOMY Japan". There is next to no information on this figure or the toyline it comes from anywhere on the internet except for a very, very few places. I have now been able to identify the figure as "Bat-L" from a series in 1985 called "TRIBOTS". There were six figures in this line, all of which are triple changers consisting of a robot, vehicle, and beast mode. I know it's not a transformer, but I figured TFW2005 would be the optimum sort of place in order to take this info. Fantastic figure, better honestly than most of the 1985 line that Hasbro put out. I was gonna post that. But other than that I can't find any info on it. Not even the japanese name (if its different or not). A truly forgotten piece of history...
The first figure in that link? That's not a Tribot and has nothing to do with the line. Although I've never collected either line, I've always appreciated the Tomy style for both Starriors and Tribots. They both really feel like companion lines, but Tribots in particular get so little attention! It's quite sad. Tribots have been identified several times in the Toyark before, although we hyphenated the name for some reason. And sadly, as useful as the other threads on the matter could have been, most have had their pictures moved/deleted by the users! Here's a link with one that still has its old pics! You should recognize the first figure! http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans.../93130-toy-id-needed-weird-tomy-made-tfs.html
if anybody wants to get this Mob-L from me, THEY can spend THEIR time trying to figure out the proper configuration for the third mode. there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, but I'm certainly no expert. I'll trade for G1 stuff, Dark Horse Groo comics, "circle-stamp" Bumper or red Bumblebee, M.U.S.C.L.E. figures, Garbage Pail Kids, PayPal funding. I'm trudatman at google's popular server, "gee male." holler.
oh, what's up, now?! I found pictures of the manual online: I now think that it is COMPLETE and that I even have extra accessories! boom!
