Orbots was created and animated by TMS, who created GodMars. They just took a toy design they already created and built a new show around it, aimed exclusively at a western audience and sensibilities. TMS isn't going to sue themselves.

And yeah, Tonka sued TMS and won, thereby getting an infinitely superior cartoon taken off the air and keeping the toys off the shelves. Even though there was literally no similarity between the completely shitty Hanna-Barbera GoBots and the utterly amazing TMS Mighty Orbots whatsoever.

Usually copyright and patent trolling of this kind is limited to the tech industry, but the principle remains: take a person with years of knowledge in law. Have them decide on an new or innovative product that they don't know much about. It's not hard to imagine that in the 1980s a 50-something year old judge goes into a case thinking that all those Japanese robots are more or less the same.

It's basically the same way DC got rid of the competition from Fawcett's Captain Marvel, which was greatly outselling Superman at the time. Bullshit underhanded tactics relying on the ignorance of regular people.

It has nothing in common with transformers. It's more like the future of the terminator movies

Parody movies fall under fair use so Hasbro can't sue the makers of Transmorphers because it's completely legal.

If Hasbro was going to sue anyone it would be the third party toy companies that directly steal the images of Transformers characters to make money off of a property that they don't even own the rights to. Hasbro is loosing money every time someone buys from companies like Mastermind Creations instead of purchasing official products.

Granted some times they make toys of characters that Hasbro isn't even producing but when you have a choice between an official Transformers figure and a 3rd Party version of the same character why do you buy the 3rd Party? I can understand making that choice when there isn't an official version of the character cause at that point it's either 3rd party or nothing but when Hasbro has released an official toy like Arcee... why buy a 3rd Party Arcee when we actually have an official Arcee toy now? The Solus Prime version of that 3rd Party mold, totally OK with that, there's no official one you can buy. But you don't need a 3rd Party Arcee.

The lawsuit between Tonka and Orbots centered around Orbots changing their name from Broots to "Mighty Orbots", which Tonka claimed was attempting to cause brand confusion with their expensive commerical advertising campaign "Mighty Robots, Mighty Vehicles". The suit had nothign to do with transforming. Just advertising campaigns.

Have you ever heard of a Mockbuster?
    No?

Search up these five movies and tell me what you find:
    Frozen Land
    Super Fast
    Kiara the Brave
    The Amazing Bulk
    Metal Man

Obvious shameless ripoffs for many famous movies.

Transmorphers is just a mockbuster piggybacking off of Transformers success. It was not meant to be good.

And besides, it's not like anyones going to watch this movie.
    Besides you of course.

Transmorphers is a parody which falls under fair use. It's perfectly legal. It's not like they literally took Transformers and slapped a different title on the cover.

And you made this thread without actually seeing the movie? You should really watch I first before screaming law suit. First of all the Transmorphers don't even have names. They don't have waring factions. They're just alien robots who turn into common Earth technology and they look just as crappy as the actual Michael Bay Transformers.

I actually think Transmophers is a much better movie because it's got it's own story and isn't trying to be Transformers. If they altered the Bay films to fit in the Transmorphers universe they might actually be good but as it is it's basically already a rip off of itself.
