Really... REALLY?? They would have been better off going with cybertonium! At least THAT would have had some kind of connect as a throw back...
I blame Avatar - once you've established you can have a hit movie and name something as badly as Unobtanium the floodgates are open to any sort of name.
especially since the movie itself not explained the name, but in a way that acknowledged it was douchey.
People act like its so unrealistic but, Ranasmurfin ( named after the SMURFS!) is real, so I don't get the hangup. Element and compound names in real life are just as bad or worse, why should the movie be better than real life? The name represents what it is and is related to... The point of a name is to describe the thing... I fail to see any issue other than "it's not what I wanted it called."
Trithyllium would have been a better name. Unobtanium is an actual term in engineering and is commonly used in thought experiments. It means any material or element that is so rare as to be considered mythical.
i believe the name of it was a joke.. and it was also something that they found to be a little stupid as well. i believe they said that the name was "focus grouped". plus.. what else would they call it?.. it transforms..it's a metal.. transformium.. why not?
You know what I find hard to believe? This stuff had NO commercial use until someone realized it was what Transformers are made out of?
I would be mad at "transformium," but only KSI ever called it that, and it's clear they weren't too quick on the uptake. I'm pretty sure the absurdity of the name was halfway intentional considering almost nobody but Joshua and his dopey assistant used the term consistently. I was practically waiting for someone in the movie to roll their eyes at it.
Humans aren't always on the mark when it comes to naming things: -Shadynasty(no joke, my friend and I encountered this in a Starbucks) -Fucking, Austria -Bitchfield, Lincolnshire -Pantydraco -kaiserlisk -Butt Hole Road
It looks badass, so its worth it, in my name. Also, what's so cheaty about the name? How does a name cheat?
I want to get lost down that road. How can the effect be "cheaty" if the very point of it's existence is to do something Transformers can't? That's like saying the very idea of even the most traditional of Transformers is cheaty because it's physically impossible for a humanoid of that size, let alone a metal one, to sustain and move in the ways they do.
