Didn't they have a Yamato yoshi that transformed into Splinter as well?

That was one of the things I think the original cartoon did better than any of the other versions of Ninja Turtles, even the original comic. It made WAY more sense to me that Splinter used to be human, and a martial arts master, rather than a rat who learned his skills by mimicking his master. Splinter always had that longing to return to the human world, and the rivalry between him and Shredder had the potential to be that much nastier, as Shredder was the one who ruined him, corrupted his teachings, forced him into exile and poverty, and ultimately robbed him of his humanity. They also had a consistent and logical way of applying the effects of the mutagen... whatever you last touched, you gained characteristics of.

I was kinda sad when they discarded that aspect to stay true to the original. It always made so much more sense.

There was also some that transformed into cars and stuff. One of them turned into a Porsche.

I remember these back from the original line. They were kinda cool; turned from a baby turtle to a teenage ninja turtle. The other incarnations of these were kinda meh. Never cared for them.

I had quite a few, only Raphael out of the turtles, but also Bebop, Rocksteady and April.

I actually still have an original transforming Leo complete and in the package if anyone wants it. Tracked it down on Ebay a few years ago but I didn't like it as much as I hoped I would.

The turtle to baby turtle figures were rereleased not to long ago in the new line. So they shouldn't be hard to track down those four. As for the others that may be difficult.

I also remember a Shredder figure that transformed into one of those Technodrome Drill thingamabobs, as well as an April figure that transformed into some cat monster she mutated into in an episode. Much to the furries' glee, I'm sure... :/

They rehash those a lot but they deserve it. Figure wise they're better than the normal Turtle figures, or were so back in the day, the transformation gave them much more useful joints. Still, wouldn't mind them trying some new engineering once in a while.

I had those, Splinter, and maybe Shredder that his armor flipped out. They were all pretty cool. I agree that they were the most poseable of the old turtles. I still have the turtles, but I think Splinter and Shredder broke.

I bought the newer transforming one from a few years ago, but it was so terrible I returned it along with the transforming Shredder. The ones in your review look like a lot better quality.

You're right, they do have a version of splinter transforming into human form as well...i'm currently looking for a good one on ebay, as the one i recently bought...i was tricked...splinter transforms into the turtle mobile. Oh well. But yea...i like the story line better with him being human...being stuck in a rat form.

as with all older toys...they were built to last it seems. The new ones never impressed me ethat much for some reason, although they're essentially the same looking figures. Perhaps it's just the nostalgia of it all...idk

The thing that kills the new(est) versions of these toys is the "regular" turtle heads. The old toys had a kind of cutesy animated look to the turtle head. Now they have heads that are supposed to look more realistic, but the bodies still look kinda cartoony. It just looks awful IMO.
