I picked up seven of these for $3.50 today at a thrift shop. They're transforming letters made by Mattel in 1985. Has anyone ever heard of these? I couldn't pass them up, just for the weirdness factor, but I can't find any info on them.

OMG. I totally want those, right the hell now.

KO's preferaby, (unless they're already cheap) cuz I'd have to mod them with magnets so they can hide amongst fridge magnets.

    Yeeeeesssss...

I had those things when I was a kid. I'm sure they're still in the basement somewhere.

When I get home tonight I'll see about digging them out (or whatever letters are left)

I also had them as a kid. They were awesome and I've always thought if I ever found them at boot fair or for cheap I'd buy a bunch.... it's not happened yet tho.

I have a letter "G" from a Colgate promo a long time ago, I'm not sure if it was manufactured by Hasbro, still trying to find it among my old toys...

These guys are Alphabots, and they've been knocked off a couple times since the 80s. There were also Numberbots.

Pain in the ass to find any more info than that.

I had the originals as a kid. The new KO combining ones look neat though.

I've got a few too (they came out in the UK as well).

Including that Letter 'A' shown above and a 'K' I've probably got about 6 of them. I remember they were sold in gift card catalogues in the 80's for some odd reason.

I'd buy them if I saw them too they are rather cute in a droid like way.

Superficially they reminded me of the transforming happy meal characters of many years ago (burgers/ milkshakes etc).
