High Moon Studios has spoken about characters having special abilities in the game they’re developing; however, the full extent of these abilities hasn’t been clearly explained. In fact, some of these abilities just might find their way into the game given that several Transformers of old had special abilities talked/shown in their bios/cartoon/comics; however, many Transformers didn’t have one.

If you were part of the developing team brainstorming abilities, what abilities would you assign to character x and why?

Optimus Prime: His Special ability is like a rampage mode, he can destroy enemys very easily and gets little damage

Bumblebee: Can use electric blasts to paralyse his enemys.

    Ratchet: Can heal himself

ronhide: He gets no damage in his special ability and when he is punched, it hurts the enemy but not ironhide

Jetfire: Can use gravitation bombs, which makes enemys slow

Silverbolt: He can shoot a electric blast, but Silverbolts doesnt paralyse enemys, it damages them.

Air Raid: Can make an Shockblasts who throws enemys away and cause big damage

    decepticons:

Megatro: The Same as Optimus Rampage Mode
Starscream: Creates null ray blasts, which paralyses the weapons of the enemy
Soundwave: Can use on or more of his minions for fighting. The Minions cant be destroyed, before their destruction the fly/go back to Soundwaves chest.
Thundercracker: Can shoot barrage missiles, who cause big damage on enemys.
Breakdown: Can hypnotize enemys, they then kill each other.
    Shockwave: Can heal himself

    Megatron:
Half charge special, Fusion Cannon: stun (stuns/slows) opponents for a set amount of time. Full charge special, Fusion Cannon: Damages opponents in percentages. The longer the player holds down the trigger charging the shot, the greater the damage—Megatron, however, is susceptible to attack—no instant kills!

*Full charge special must be fired from a stationary position regardless of mode.

    Starscream:
Half charge special, Null-ray: renders opponents weapons/special ability useless for a set amount of time.
Full charge special (robot mode), homing missiles: limited range/damage/accuracy for distant foes.
Full charge special (jet mode), homing missiles: same as above but with fewer missiles and greater damage percentile.

    Thundercracker:
Half charge special, sonic boom: disorients opponent for set amount of time.
Full charge special, sonic boom concussion waves: targets one foe, dealing great damage each time the player presses the trigger, the player, however, also receives damage as well after dealing a set amount of damage.

    Skywarp:
Half charge special, teleportation: Skywarp can teleport, evading enemies and attacks.
Full charge special, teleporting melee barrage: When activated by a nearby foe, Skywarp performs a teleporting melee attack that delivers a considerable amount of damage after finishing with a missile/laser attack (random).

    Soundwave:
Half charge special, sound wave bubble: waves disorient nearby foes for a set amount of time, the closer the foe the stronger the disorientation.
Full Charge special, cassette assists: Soundwave can call upon one or two pre-set aides to assist in battle; each cassette or duo has a unique ability exclusive to it.
-Rumble & Frenzy: nock distant (within reason) opponents off balance with trimmers; however, the two will attack nearby opponents with their pile drivers (for a set amount of time/damage).
-Ravage: fights along side Soundwave for a set amount of time by way of melee attacks or weapons. Ravage also works as a shield, taking on damage intended for Soundwave (shielded attacks quickly deplete the assist meter).
-Laszerbeak & Buzzsaw: target one foe and attack from multi-angles for a set amount of time (damage given is quite low).

*Soundwave is inaccessible when Rumble & Frenzy are attacking an opponent directly.

All specials can be done from either Robot mode or alternate mode unless noted otherwise above.

    To be continued…

Optimus Prime: Extra shields and the ability to absorb the damage of nearby allies

Bumblebee: his stun thing from ROTF game

    Ratchet: heal himself and others

Ironhide: Invincible with extra melee power (basically ROTF game Optimus Prime)

Jetfire: Ability to overheat enemy weapons

Megatron: Chargy-upy one hit power blast (same as ROTF game)

    Starscream: Super speed?

Skywarp: Teleportation by marking where to go (like the Call of Duty airstrike thing from WaW)

Soundwave: Jamming radar and maybe have flashbangs/stun grenades.... OR give him cassette minions that you can choose from a list

Everyone is listing what THEY think the specials could be. None of these are official.

Read the OP's post first next time.

LOL obviously I realized that. My comment was based on the idea that these wish lists completely ignore the idea of game balance. Fine for single player, but not so fun for multiplayer.

Agreed. If there's one thing I hate, it's over-powered special abilities.

    Let's see.....what would make sense.....

    Optimus Prime: Temporary firepower increase
Bumblebee: Electro-stun that will stun an opponent for a short time
    Ratchet: healing radius
Ironhide: Temporarily impervious to melee attacks
    Jetfire: Temporary unlimited weapon cooldown

    Megatron: Charged fusion cannon shot
    Starscream: Flamethrower null-cannons
    Skywarp: teleporting
Thundercracker: a sonic boom that'll cause damage to all enemies in his radius
    Soundwave: Laserbeak Radar Jammer

The online gameinformer already listed Prime and Megs 2 special abilities and one of Starscreams.

In robot form, Optimus' main weapon is the Ion Blaster, a special gun that's totally unique to him. His vehicle mode, on the other hand, resembles the truck we all know him as, but actually operates as a Cybertronian tank. His special abilities include Warcry and Mark Target. Though we're not entirely sure what these are yet, it sounds like they may be more focused on buffing allies than full-out assault.

Though Megatron will greatly reward loyalty, he's also not concerned with destroying supporters the second they let him down. As such, he's got the helpful ability to Mark Targets (an ability he shares with Optimus Prime) but also the more selfish Drain ability, which will presumably allow him to take the power from his enemies and use it to fuel himself. When switching to vehicle mode, Megatron transforms into a powerful hovering tank that also puts his powerful fusion cannon to use.

As one of the handful of Transformers that can change into a jet, Starscream will also have the special Hover ability while in robot form. His other special ability, Shockwave, sounds like it will be perfect for handling large groups of enemies.

Mark Target huh? I wonder if it acts like Hunter's Mark from WoW (i.e. it increases damage done to the marked target and gives off a visiual indicator)

Warcry sounds like a group buff, very fitting for Prime. It'd be awesome if an epic line from Peter Cullen was shouted out whenever it was activated.

Some kind of all-out attack from Jetfire would be suitable, where he is able to use all his many weapons simultaneously. Ironhide having temporary invulnerability is another good one and ties in with his tech specs. I think he should also be one of the toughest characters in the game minus that ability anyway. Megatron having various power levels for his fusion cannon is another good idea, as is Skywarp's teleportation. Soundwave could either use his minions or get some kind of stealth ability.

I can maybe buy Ironhide getting an extra layer of protection for a few seconds kind of like Barrier in Mass Effect 2. But for the love of Primus, please no temporary invulnerability characters.

Those are the most annoying characters ever. Anyone who's PVPed against a a Paladin in WoW can understand. And since he's my favorite character I really don't want to hate Ironhide.

It fits in character, plus there's no way it can be anything close to being a spamable ability, or else Megatron could be very, very hard to kill in multiplayer.

Optimus: AOE firepower and damage increase affects all nearby allies including himself
Bumblebee: EMP disrupts enemy radar or if aimed at enemy stuns
    Ratchet: AOE Healing
Ironhide: Ironshield increases Ironhides defence for a short time
Jetfire: UAV recon sort of thing

Megatron: Charged Fusion Cannon increases the power of his Fusion Cannon
Soundwave: Signals that disrupt enemy radar or locked-on missles
    Starscream: UAV same as Jetfire
    Skywarp: Teleporting Dodge
Thundercraker: Sonic boom that stuns an enemy

now obviously there are balancing issues within these characters but it is limited at the 5 characters of each faction Im sure there will be more and if there is there would be a counter part to each character.

AOE: Area of Effect (NO I do not play RPG's)

This post contains previously listed information, newer specials as well as a better explanation of how special abilities work.

The special abilities described are NOT meant to be a big game changer, like an instant kill or unblockable attack, but rather a power aide to assist the player in his/her battles. All specials are limited to a set amount of time, seconds, really. Like a sudden burst of adrenaline, once its gone, its gone until the player has satisfied the requirements necessary to replenish the meter (connecting hits).

Half charged specials do half the damage of full charged specials and/or last half as long as full charged specials. What I had in mind was having damaged capped at a fixed percentage 25 ~ 30% damage, while fully charged specials dish out somewhere around 35 ~45% damage.

Characters with the ability to charge special abilities, increasing the specials duration or attack damage like Megatron, Thundercracker, etc. take on equal damage themselves after dishing out 40% damage—special abilities are not invincible (unless otherwise stated), players performing special abilities can be stopped by a direct hit from the target or target’s ally. The special ability meter of a player who’s been prematurely knocked out of special ability attack will see their meter drop by half, so those with full meters will go down to half and those with half start from scratch.

I figured time-based defensive special abilities should last somewhere between 40 to 60 seconds, somewhat like the duration of the Star in Super Mario Brothers.

    Megatron:
Half charged special, Fusion Cannon: stun (stuns/slows) opponents for a set amount of time.
Half charged special, Mace attack: deals heavy melee attacks with Mace when activated at the end of a melee combo.
Fully charged special, Fusion Cannon: deals heavy damage. The longer the player holds down the trigger, charging the shot, the greater the damage—no instant kills!

    Starscream:
Half charged special, Null-ray: renders opponents weapons/special ability useless for a set amount of time.
Fully charged special (robot mode), homing missiles: limited range/damage/accuracy for distant foes.
Fully charged special (jet mode), homing missiles: same as above but with fewer missiles and greater damage percentile.

    Thundercracker:
Half charged special, sonic boom: disorients opponent for set amount of time.
Fully charged special, sonic boom concussion waves: targets one foe, dealing great damage each time the player presses the trigger, the player, however, also receives damage as well after dealing a set amount of damage.

    Skywarp:
Half charged special, teleportation: Skywarp can teleport, evading enemies and attacks.
Fully charged special, teleporting melee barrage: When activated by a nearby foe, Skywarp performs a teleporting melee attack that delivers a considerable amount of damage after finishing with a missile/laser attack (random).

    Soundwave:
Half charged special, sound wave blast: waves disorient nearby foes for a set amount of time, the closer the foe the stronger the disorientation.
Fully charged special, cassette assists: Soundwave can call upon one or two pre-set aides to assist in battle; each cassette or duo has a unique ability exclusive to it.

    Optimus Prime:
Half charged special, powerful grenade attack: something similar to what we saw Prime do in ROTF during his factory fight.
Fully charged special, keen scenes: increases Optimus Primes aiming accuracy, speed and agility for a set amount of time.

*Half charge special with axe in hand delivers more powerful attacks when activated at the end of a melee combo.

    Bumblebee:
Half charged special, power shield: increases effectiveness and range of Bumblebee’s arm shield.

Fully charged special, rapid fire: allows Bumblebee the ability to fire his arm-cannon in succession with a slight boost in power.

    Ratchet:
Half charged special, protective shell: blocks projectile attacks (only).

Fully charged special, auto recharge: partial restores health to all nearby Transformers (ally/foes). The amount of life replenished depends on ones proximity to the healer (percentage of life replenished to be determined).

    Ironhide:
Half charged special, energy blast: powerful laser blast from hand

Fully charged special, chained melee attack, ends with energy blast from hand.

    Jetfire:
Half charged special, mach burst: allows Jetfrire to cross great distance in short time in flight mode while in robot mode the powerful blasts from his engines can be used as projectile attack, similar to ROTF’s powered up Optimus Prime.

Fully charged special, full assult: Jetfire unloads a barrage of firepower targeting all enemies in range (similar to Macross’ Valkyries with power armor.

    Shockwave:
Half charged special, EMP ground pound: blasts the ground beneath him, disabling the weapon systems of everything within a predetermined (360 degree bubble) for set amount of time.

Fully charged special, Cannon blast: deals heavy damage to one foe (robot mode); deals heavy damage to several foes, wider range (alternate mode).

    Hound:
Half charged special, hologram decoy: Hound projects a decoy of himself somewhere on the battle field, which mirrors his every action.

Fully charged special, Smart-type bomb/missile: targets one foe, deals heavy damage. Those caught in the blast zone (friend/foe) also take on damage based on their proximity to blast.

    Mirage:
Half charged special, Cloak: Makes Mirage invisible to friends and foes. Mirage is slightly visible when firing his weapon, and a direct hit from an enemies attack ends his ability to cloak.

Fully charged special, Extended Cloak: functions the same as above, but also cloaks nearby teammates .

    Edit:
    Brawl (2/21):
Half charged special, Sonic Stun Rifle: single charged shot stuns one foe upon contact for a set amount of time.

Half charged special, battle axe melee: works as a combo finisher when activated during melee combos.

Fully charged special, Double-barreled turret attack: powerful cannons on back fire a barrage of firepower into the air that rain down on near by foes in robot mode while in alternate mode it fires a barrage on targeted foes dealing heavy damage on targets that receive the full attack.

    Breakdown:
Half charged special, Plasma-energy blaster: gun fires a single blast of plasma energy at one foe dealing heavy damage.

Fully charged special, Concussion blasts: gun fires powerful blasts of energy over a wide area, pushing foes away; foes up against a wall when blasts hit lose life points.

    Air Raid:
Half charged special, special melee combo which ends with some sort of energy attack.

Fully charged special, Torque Rifle: shatters the weapon(s) of targeted foes, rendering his/her weapon based attacks (special abilities included) useless for a set period of time.

    Silverbolt:
Half charged special, Electrostatic discharge blast: rifle stuns target foe for a set period of time—opponents stunned while in flight spiral out of control toward the ground.

Fully charged special, maximum power Electrostatic discharge blast: does the same as above but covers a wider area, affecting more foes within range for a set amount of time.

    To be continued…
