Depends. In America they are seperate. In Japan.... they are one continuity.

If we're going by the American versions of those shows, then they are their own separate continuities.

I've never seen any of the Japanese series, and I know very little about RID or Armada, but Animated is its own continuity, although that statement is muddied somewhat by the opening to the first episode which shows footage from the old G1 cartoon.

In America, all three shows are in their own continuities, separate from both G1 and from each other.

In Japan, Armada and Animated are their own continuities, while RiD is part of G1 continuity.

Maybe in the Animated continuity G1 is a set of poor-quality historical documentaries.

Although the RID thing was an after-the-fact declaration that, if I recall correctly, shoved Car Robots in between G1 season 2 and TF:TM. And none of the characters in Car Robots are the same guys as in G1.

Well Fire Convoy, Brave Maximus, Mach Alert, Gigatron, Black Convoy are certainly NOT Optimus Prime, Fort Max, Prowl, Megatron, and Scourge. That's probably why it fits into G1 continuity in Japan.

Japan fits G1 Seasons 1-3 and disregards Rebirth. Instead Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, Zone, and Battlestars.

Micron Legend (Armada) and Superlink (Energon) take place after the original G1 continuity in Japan. Galaxy Force (Cybertron) initially wasn't but it later was made to be a sequel to the two.

Beast Wars, Beast Wars II, Beast Wars Neo, and Beast Machines all are part of Japanese continuity as well.

Animated and Prime are obviously seperate no matter what. The others can fit and do so in Japanese continuity.

In the US, however, G1, Beast Wars, and Beast Machines are one continuity, RiD is its own, The Unicron Trilogy is another, the another with Animated, and finally Prime.

As a fan, I like Japanese Continuity since it for the most part all fits in together. But to each his own....

Yeah, but can you see the events of G1 seasons 1 and 2 happen in 1984-1986, the events of Car Robots in 2000 and the events of TF:TM in 2005? The G1 guys never once bother to look into the Car Robots' guys conflict?

The retcon that involved jamming Car Robots in exploited the ending of the 2003 manga, "The Stargate Battles", in which pretty much all the Transformers currently on Earth were involved in a giant space battle in Earth orbit in the mid-to-late 90s that concluded with them all crashing back to the planet, undergoing uncontrolled re-entry through the atmosphere, and not being seen for some time afterward (several months at the time of the story's epilogue). It was, evidently, during this quiet, Transformer-lite period of time that RiD was able to take place with minimal opposition.

    Gotta love Takara's convoluted timelines.
