If I had a real home theater and pay per view, I would do that as soon as it came out.

But isn't it possible the pirate pay-per-view movies?

I'm still going to see it. PayPerView is a tricky system I don't want to be a part of.

This seems like a really, REALLY bad business decision.

    No kidding.

"See it in the theater? Why bother? I've already got the pirated pay-per-view version on a DVD."

Ok, am I the only one who notices that this will make pirating movies a hell of a lot more easier? No cam work just record, copy and sell. Talk about movie suicide.

    EDIT: damn I'm slow...

    interesting.

this could either be really good in that it may set a good precedent.

or it could blow in their faces.

I work for a company that orders Pay-Per-View (mostly porn, as usual)

Finally, I won't be ordering Butt Quest for people :D

Isn't most pay-per-view in standard definition? Most people with high-end home theaters aren't going to settle for that for $50.

I know everyone else is saying it, but yeah this would basically be saying to the world "we don't care about piracy." Which of course doesn't make any sense considering how much major studios are trying to get people to NOT pirate films (who hasn't seen those stupid ads at the beginning of a movie where a guy is taking about how much piracy hurts the little guy in movie making).

Anyway, I doubt the validity of the news article until it is verified by a major entertainment news source, because this is something that screams "Needs a press release or official statement by employee to be believable."

If I'm wrong then I guess we'll all be able to watch the movie pretty easily between the theatrical release and the official DVD release. Although there is no way even a high quality pirated copy will keep me from seeing this movie in theaters three times or more with different groups of people (provided I enjoy it enough the first time).

I have a bad feeling this is going to kill box office numbers.

Well, as far as piracy goes, I'm one of those people that they don't lose any money on. Take this film for example. I'm going to go see it in theatres, regardless of the home version. And I'm going to buy the Blu-ray when it comes out this holiday season. So what money are they losing by me having something to watch in between the two?

But as for quality... damn. I'm gonna be all over this like white on rice when it hits the 'net.
