Just trying to wrap my head around this.

Can anybody tell me what the different Generations were, when then came out, if they aired any cartoons etc, and whats toys were out?

Example, when did G2 come out? And was there a cartoon to support the toy line, In USA or Japan?

There kind of was a G2 cartoon. But it was just reaired G1 episodes with CGI transitions instead the the Autobot-Decepticon symbol transition. And the episodes were chosen hap-hazzardly. Meaning 1 day they'd air a 1st season episode. And next day they'd skip a season or two.

One major downfall was that (at least where I live) it was never aired at the same time. So one never knew when it was on

G1 had the cartoon and the comic

    G2 had just the comic

Beast Wars came next, with the CGI cartoon

Machine Wars, a little-known subline, could be considered part of Beast Wars. It got no supporting storyline. It was a couple of new flipchanger moulds and G1 exclusive repaints

Beast Machines could be considered the same generation as BW.

Then Robots in Disguise was imported from Japan along with the cartoon.

Armada came next, with its own anime.

    Energon and

Cybertron followed, the three are often referred to as a trilogy, since they appear to follow the same universe. They could be considered a single generation.

Of course, G1 and G2 were the same universe, too. And so were Beast Wars and Beast Machines, actually. It wasn't until RID that they actually went to a new continuity.

    Ahem.

    G1
    - Cartoon
    - Japan continuity (Headmasters thru Zone)
    - Marvel US Comic
    - Marvel UK Comic
    - Japanese Manga

    G2
    - Cartoon (G1 with CYBERNETIC CUBE FTW)
    - Marvel US Comic (12 issues)
    - Marvel UK Comic (4 issues?)
    - Japanese Manga

    BW
    - Cartoon

(at this point, Japan imported the first season of Beast Wars but Mainframe took too much time for them to continue with it, so Japan brought in their animation studio to make BWII and BW: Neo, which are their own continuity of Beast Wars)

    BM
    - Cartoon

    Robots in Disguise
    - Cartoon

    Armada
    - Cartoon
    - US Comic

    Energon
    - Cartoon
    - US Comic

    Cybertron
    - Cartoon
    - Transformers Collectors Club Comic (somewhat...)

    Classics
    - Transformers Collectors Club Comic

    "Heroes"
    - Cartoon by Cartoon Network

    As for the "Universes"...

US G1 comic and G2 comic are the same continuity
US G1 Cartoon, BW Cartoon, and BM Cartoon are the same continuity
ROBOTS IN DISGUISE is its own continuity
Armada, Energon, and Cybertron are one continuity, though in Japan, the Cybertron equivalent "GALAXY FORCE" was made in to a separate continuity, which would explain things that make no sense in Cybertron.
