YAY, IT'S F#$ING REAL!!!

   

 

It'd be cool. It's not an OMGLOLBBQ thing for me, in the way that having Cullen puts me in a better frame of mind for the film, but I do think Welker's got what it takes to play a good villain.

 

Too much TF-related goodiness...trying to control anxiousness and excitement... XD

If this panned out, it would warm my heart. Welker deserves to be beside Cullen in this movie.

Congrats to Cullen, but this is where its at for me...

 

Wow, well I hope his megs has held up over the years. A lot of us have heard Cullen do Prime recently but how many have heard Welker do Megatron recently?

I don't think he will have a problem given the amount of work the guy does.

 

Welker will be the cherry on top of the Cullen cake. I've been watching all the old G1 cartoons this week and I have to say as over the top as Welker's Megatron could get at times, he's still as important to the mix as Cullen. Cullen's Prime was the moral center of G1 TFs and likewise Welker was the power-mad super villian. A perfect mix of stand up hero and dripping with evil villian.

The later incarnations of Megatron sounded closer to G1 Tracks (Jim Baccus's Mr Howe from Gilliagan's Island) than G1 Megatron, which didn't cut it with me.

Welker's abilities as a VA are far superior to most working today. IMHO, he is the modern version of Mel Blanc. He can do almost anything with his voice.

First person to ask who Mel Blanc is (or Jim Baccus for that matter) gets a shot to the lugnuts.

Dreamworks has to see the positive reation they've recieved just in the last few hours when they do something that sticks close to the source material that fans want to see and hear compared to the negative responces to the poor choices that have surfaced (ie long nosed Prime and Camero Bumblebee).

Just today I mentioned Cullen as Prime in the new movie to my younger (30 yrs old) brother and he, who is not a huge TF follower now, was genuinely excited about it. I also mentioned that Bumblebee was now a Camero and not a VW Bug or some compact equivalent, he said, and I quote, "That's just dumb.". Not because a Camero TF isn't cool. But because he remembers who Bumblebee is as a character. Ditto on the idea of no mass shifting and screwing with Soundwave, one of the most popular TFs of all time.

Cullen is a huge step in the right direction, and Welker would be a massive bonus, but Dreamworks still has to remember that even people 20 and up who are not die hard TF fans still know when TFs are done wrong, not just the "fan-boys".

 

If Welker uses the voice that he used for Megatron in the '86 movie (not the voice from the TV show) it will be MOST awesome indeed !!!

 

Peter Cullen and Frank Welker both did voice work for an episode of Megas XLR. After watching it, Frank can still pull off a good Megatron if needed. Wouldn't mind him reprising the role of Megatron, if they can't find anyone else that fits the new version.

 

I was just watching the G4 video where Lorenzo (what ever his last name is) announced that Cullen was Prime, and when the hosts asked if they were going to get the original Megatron he said, "We'll decide in post."

But then he added - "You never know."

Sounds like a good sign!
