The Transformers The Movie 20th Anniversary DVD Website has been updated. They have added videos that were shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2006. Included are the comparison of the remastered and original versions as well as a sample of the Theatrical 16x9 Widescreen and a greeting from Nelson Shin, Flint Dille and Susan Blu. Click on the Multimedia button to access the videos.

Why are the "remastered" versions horribly cropped?

Okay, when it says Original vs Re-mastered, does Original = the original DVD release?

If so, the re-mastered version looks out of sight.

I love Don's cover, but.. ah... pretty much all of the characters on that cover have mostly bit parts. Is it going to be one of those "transforming" covers so when you turn it, it's Ultra Magnus (instead of Prime), Hot Rod (instead of Bumblebee), Kup (instead of Jazz), and Grimlock in dino mode. Then replace Megatron and Starscream with Galvatron and Cyclonus.

It is going to be the changing image kind, but it doesn't have hot rod on the cover. I forget who is on it besides Magnus.

Actually it could have Hot Rod on the cover. The Magnus cover is for the new comic adaptation for IDW.

I love Don's work, but that cover is rather boring... just my opinion. It's also kinda odd and even unsettling to see the cover with all non-movie characters. Whats that all about.

I hope the fixed the coloring issues like the scene where Frenzy and Rumble are ejected to "jam that transmission" from Blaster.

I honestly doubt this DVD is so important to them that they would take the time to correct every instance of a miscolored character, or clean up some of the more rushed animation cells.

Something like that would likely be outside of their budget as well.

I was going to mention the cost, but forgot. Besides, spotting the mistakes each time I watch the movie is part of its charm for me.

I love the color correction and I have no doubt the sound will be improved...

...but the widescreen seems to be created by cutting off the top & bottom of the image we're all familiar with. For this, I'd prefer a 4x3 presentation to preserve as much animation as possible.

Yep, that or create new animation to make the movie into a "Director's Cut" kind of film.

I'm still so buyinig this DVD. I love the cover, it's the way the Movie should have been.

That's how the original 16x9 was created for theaters. Rhino's 4x3 was the film with all matte's removed. And it looks like Sony's 4x3 is the cropped widescreen version (used originally in the old f.h.e video cassette).

From my understanding, Sony acquired the actual masters for both their widesceen and fullscreen versions. Something Rhino did not or could not do, which is why they look dramatically different in both color and cropping.

I think i prefer the 'Reconstructed' Release version footage to the 16X9 version...

I wonder if they will include things like test, or unfinished animation, or recorded dialog that was never animated.

Sweet! Being re-mastered and color corrected alone makes it worth getting. This is now on my Must Buy list :D
