Time to through out all those arguments about figure colors based on the old, non color corrected internet grabs people used to complain and argue for days about.  

 

Actually, I just compared those before/after shots from the Shout! ad about their "restoration" and my old special edition Rhino DVD looks exactly like the "after" shots Shout bragged about, lol (besides my DVD being I uncropped 4:3). The before shots looked like possibly an even older version or purposely blown out images to make their "work" seem more impressive.

Looks like I just might pass on this 30th anniversary edition.

 

I have the Rhino DVD, doesn't look that good. The Sony DVD looks better, but still not like that. Especially on an HDTV, DVD even with progressive scan active on a Blu Ray player will never be that clear. From what I can tell it does look much better. I guess we'll see when it comes out.

Personally, I can't wait for the BR to come, I have it preordered at Amazon. I know Shout did the series wonders vs the shit Rhino versions. Restored broadcast footage, fixed the sound effects, removed the added junk Rhino put in...etc. I have both versions in my Library to compare, and its no comparison.

 

Did you compare the scenes shown in the Shout ad talking about their restoration? My Rhino DVD didn't look anything like the before shots and matched the after shots. I had both up on the same screen switching back and forth to compare.

Not going to argue the resolution difference.

Is your Rhino DVD the remastered special edition?

 

I wonder how different this is going to be vs my region free bluray from australia...?

 

I'm wondering the same thing.....bc the international blu ray versions already looks so good! I can't imagine looking even better. Hopefully someone can do a comparison.

 

Maybe they will fix some stuff... like skywarp, thundercracker and the insecticons being at starscream's coronation right after unicron turned them into cyclonus and sweeps...  

 

I am always sort of suprised by comments like that. In the show the Insecticons were shown to have many clones more than once. How do we know they werent clones that died that became Unicrons heralds ? How do we know those at the coronation werent the clones ?

Even in Five faces of Darkness they show up again, whos to say one is the real thing and one is just a clone ?

As for Skywarp and Thundercracker, yeah I want that fixed too, How about the rain makers or the welcoming Committee ?

So yeah, this release is useless to me.

 

Why is it surprising at all to think they mistakenly showed them after they were dead? We are talking about animation that is notoriously fraught with mistakes lol... the inclusion of skywarp and tcracker just kinda proves my point  

The clones couldn't exist without Shrapnel directly controlling them. If he dies or even has his fragile beams interrupted, the clones cease to be (crumbled to dust in the cartoon).

...and we never saw them make clones in the movie anyway

It works both ways

 

Because they were never featured again. They appeared by mistake. If you can find me an ep where any of them ever spoke, I'll buy your argument. Until then, the clones disintegrate when they are no longer under control... so there would be nothing for unicron to have reformatted.

 

The commercial has me pumped for the release!

 

so if a character doesnt speak but shows up again in the show then they are not really alive ?----mind boggled !

If the clones disintegrate like you say, when they are no longer under control, then that would suggest that the original 3 would still have to be alive for them to exist in Five Faces of Darkness, which happen after the movie.

is it that far of a stretch to think maybe they improved their clones over the 20 years between movie and series ?

We are going to have to politely agree to disagree here. We both clearly think each other is crazy.

 

I'm going to be getting the steel book version and can't wait till it ce out.
