Im about to get this game off of someone. i have a question. i have seen pics of the game and it looks fun. are there any reviews of this? and also will it play with an american made PS2 or will i absolutely have to buy an import PS2?
Its crap, I hope your not paying for it. Since it was released for Japan only, you'll either need an import PS2 or have a US one modified.
ha, i was going to pay for it..... i guess i wont now... lol i played the Atari Transformers armada game and i thought it was decent was hoping to play this one and it would be similar just vintage TF's
I wouldn't say the game is total crap, but it's quite mediocre and repetitive. Neither. It won't play in an American PS2 normally, but you can buy either a mod chip or a swap disc to make it play without buying a Japanese PS2. The mod chip would be the most complete solution, but most of them require you to solder a bunch of wires to your PS2 motherboard. A huge pain and a little bit risky, but you'll never have to do anything special to play import discs again. A swap disc doesn't require any soldering or difficult modifications to your system, but it will require some tricks. One method, if you have an original type PS2, is to buy a flip-top case for your PS2. It's a very east console modification that will allow you to swap discs without the PS2 knowing about it. The other method is to use a plastic "slide key" to unlatch the drive without the system noticing. Either way, you'll have to boot the swap disc first, use whatever trick you chose, and then put in the game.
I enjoyed it myself. Go to GameFaqs and read the FAQ because if you dive right into the game w/o knowing how to play it you will have your a** handed to you in a heartbeat. I purchased Tatakai back in 03 and I still play it every now and then. If you like old school beat'em ups that have repetitive color swapped enemies then you might dig it. If your expecting gradiose FinalFantasy type of game play then you will be VERY disappointed.
The gameplay is extremely repetitive and sometimes very cheap too. However, the story scenes are decent so it is at least worth playing through once with each side to see the story. It's like an old episode of G1 at its best, cheese and all.
I was surprised how close a few of the voices were to the US cartoon. And then again by how close the other ones weren't.
I brought this game before I read this forum, but I have done my research. I'm going to give this game a go. I have the emulator and iso files for it, and it works great. I might even give it a go on my modified PS2.
I got the game before I read this thread, but I did my research prior to buying this game. It runs great on the PS2 emulator that I've been using (PCSX2 V1.5). I might even try it on my modified PS2.
