Well, since I doubt, that they'll have MissionCity again in the second Movie, it's nothing too bad. It would have been worse, if the Bumblebee-Statue would be standing there when it happened. But the loss of the Back to the Future-Set is pretty sad.
According to the Verizon commercials Bay has it in his backyard. In all seriousness, it's most likely in storage for now until the next time someone wants it to be set up somewhere. The BTTF set loss is TERRIBLE.
I agree, the loss of the courthouse square from BTTF is tragic. I've always wanted to go see it, but never had a chance to. Now a lot of it is pretty much gone, though I think they saved parts of the clock tower.
I remembered a picture last year that someone posted of passing Brawl/Devastator on the backlot during the tour so I figured the city was a loss. And as far as BTTF, it's amazing post that movie how many times you see that courthouse set in TV and movies. Glad I saw the original while it was there. Looks like Marty's going to be trapped in 1955 for quite a while now.
I never liked the Universal Mission City 'Generic Street' set, because it looked pretty fake. Before Starscream attacks, they're driving down a nice, wide street in LA?, and afterwards they're on a much narrower street set with the tell-tale intersections that signifiying the far end of the set.
Well that really sucks but at least no one was hurt...someone might have gotten fired or getting fired but at least no one was hurt.
