Wasn't really happy with the size of the RiD Soundwave, especially next to FE Starscream. I decided to mod his legs so that he'd be taller. Not much to show right now other than the new height. Still a lot of work to do on refining the pieces, then a paint job since I'm modifying the figure anyways.

And incase people are wondering, yes it cans till transform. The front is just longer now.

It's really a simple mod. I'll take more detailed pictures tomorrow showing everything without the tape covering the joint. xD

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this. I already think Soundwave is an excellent figure, so if you can improve him go for it.

Please show how you're doing this so it can be reproduced? I'm sure a lot of customizers would appreciate it, including myself!

I'm still working on the first leg right now (doing one leg at a time to make sure it all works out). If all ends up good and as it should, I'll take a bunch of photos detailing the process when I go to mod the second leg.

Cool. A tutorial showing how you did the mod would be nice.

I got soundwave the very morning they came out in argos - and yeah his height bugged the hell out of me (im a size queen)

Simple solution and as you can see his head sits heigher than screamers
sorry zyros - not trying to hijack your thread (just thought id show of what i did)

Im liking your idea because it looks like he will be able to have his trademark backwards legs

@Wasp: the problem with what you're doing is that Soundwave no longer has any leg posseability. His entire lower half is basically left in vehicle mode and he's standing on his toes. :p

Yeah hes pretty rigid and I dare not touch him lol
Im used to his legs looking like this - and they are separated, I really dont see it as his legs being in alt mode, but yeah hes on his tip toes:)

Nice work... I know I'll be checking this thread everyday to see the final product. Whether or not I'm brave enough to try it myself though is another story.

So I think a few people were waiting for an update on this guy, but between the work I'm putting in on him and my other projects, he kind of took a backseat. I also got my hands on a second Soundwave, and I found it was both easier to restart this project and I'm not getting a more screen-accurate figure.

When you look at Soundwave's show model, his thighs are really just short. The toy's actually misrepresenting his lower legs, making this mod a whole lot easier! So here's the new Soundwave's height:

    A few things to note:
    - This is obviously very rough. I have a lot of sculpting and sanding and putty to do.
    - I have to fill in the new gap for vehicle mode, but I've already devised a simple fix for that.
    - I have to detail the new parts of his legs.
    - This will take me some time because working on this everyday gets bland.
    - I have a tutorial outlining the step-by-step process in the works, but it's not done since the project isn't. xD

    Some more work:

1 leg is at the putty/sculpting stage, with the other right behind it.

What glue did you use? Everytime I try and glue anything on a transformer it snaps off in no time. I've tried many types of glues and never had a single one stick worth a sh*t.

    Dollar store super glue.

Try washing the part with soapy water if you're having problems. Sometimes mold release and other chemicals on the toy interfere.
