I picked this guy up back in January, and finally had time to paint him up. I went through the same process as Stepper here, sanding as much of the figure as I could, followed by a coat of HoK AP01 adhesion promoter. Then I sprayed several coats of a custom mixed dark blue metallic, with a bit of red apple pearl to give it depth in different light, as well as a custom mixed red. Bot mode parts were coated in several different Testor's Metallizer lacquers, for contrasting metallic tones.

This figure marks a few firsts for me, first time painting an Optimus Prime in G1 colors, still amazed after 3 years that I had not done one yet. I also tried out Micro Mask liquid masking film for the first time, at the suggestion of my good friend Big Hank. Last but not least, my first trial run with panel lining (chest and torso area), with some tips from my man Z. I also did some light nicks and scrapes here and there, though minimally since I'm still getting the hang of it. After all was said and done in the detail department, I laid down several layers of wet look gloss lacquer, wet sanding between coats to ensure a smooth, even, and not too thick gloss finish. Decal was provided by Boggs6ft7.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks guys!

How do you mean? I always base coat all parts with an airbrush, so aside from detail work, everything you see is airbrushed.

Thanks man, it came from the fodder bin, but I'm thinking Universe Astrotrain?

Thanks brother, and thanks for the tip, I'm pretty happy with the panel lines for a first try.

    @ JB

I mean, the paint is so smooth! It looks like part of the figure rather than a transparent part! That is pretty amazing!
