So I pop the DVD in my drive.

    I click install.

Yes yes yes, I agree to the EULA.

    Installing...

    CRASH!

I photoshopped my error screen so it fits in the post without being ugly:

I've tried a number of times, and each time I've reached varying levels of progress, sometimes the installer crashes when it launches.

    Any ideas?

So I talked to a friend who told me my disc sounded scratched.

I looked at the disc (I didn't think to before, it's BRAND NEW), and whaddaya know... smudges on the disc. Cleaned it off... it's installing now... knock on wood. Still hangs in a place or two, but it's moving forward.

Okay, game's installed... but it now crashes on launch... No title screen or anything... click Play on the DVD menu or start the game from the start menu and all I get is the disc reading, then this:

First off, tell me something about your computer: CPU, graphics card, RAM, hard drive space, etc. Make sure your computer has enough juice to play it.

Second, make sure your drivers/DirectX are up-to-date.

Third, if all else fails, considering exchanging your copy. The screenie doesn't reveal much, I'm afraid.

    3.0 GHz Celeron D
    1 GB RAM
GeForce 4 ti 4200 AGP: 128 MB VRAM
Hard Drive space = yes... 80gb drive... 10.7gb free

I can check on my video card drivers... directx is updated... I play WoW after all. ;)

If it fully installed then hunt around for a non-cd crack so you don't need the DVD in the drive (bypassing the need to read the disk to start the game).

There should be one somewhere on gamecopyworld.com... just go to google and search for "transformers pc no cd" and it should be the first one. And always when downloading from websites like that, SCAN THE FILE FOR VIRUSES. it is a must. And if that doesn't work then return it and ask for a new copy saying that it wouldn't work (you probably won't get a refund but you'll get a new copy of the game)

Perhaps I can make an ISO of the disc and mount it using Alcohol 120%?

Edit: Tried, got an error. I wonder if my DVD Drive sucks.

Edit edit: Also installed the latest nVidia drivers for my card... which were last updated Nov. 6th, 2006. :p

I'm not saying it's the cause (possible factor?) and I don't mean to offend, really, but that GeForce 4 is... old-fashioned, not to mention mid-range. Brings me back to when I got my GF3 some 5-6 years ago. I don't know how much Pc you play, but an upgrade wouldn't hurt.

I haven't considered that. It's not impossible, but unlikely, especially if nothing else give you trouble.

Oh, I know, I need to upgrade, definitely. I actually got it cause my GeForce FX 5200 (also 128mb VRAM) was causing WoW to crash... so I went back to Everquest, which I used to play, and THAT would crash... so a friend from EQ gave me this for free.

The bottom of the box says, under system req's, "All nVidia GeForce 4 ti 4200 64 MB and better chipsets"... guess that's bare minimum...

The only problem with installing the Transformers game is it does.

Good news. Got it to work.

Bad news. Had to use a no-disc crack to get it to do so. Honestly, I blame my drive, not the disc.

I'm having fun with it. It's exactly what I expected it to be. Not the greatest game in the world, no... but I wanted giant robots blowing stuff up. That's what I got. :)

No-disc cracks aren't too bad. Beats scrambling for a disc every time I want to play a game. Well glad you got it to work, but maybe you DO need to look into an upgrade of some sort, if you're disc drive is scrappy. BTW, loved your comics! Tons more than I can say for this game. :(
