The three finalists are Avatar, District 9, and Star Trek.
It did get nominated for Best Sound Mixing, against Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Basterds, and Star Trek.

Really not all that surprising when you think about it. Avatar is getting an Oscar, then...

Honestly? I'd have swapped ROTF in and pulled Star Trek out. But I also feel really bad for the poor guys at ILM. :/

Agreed. Star Trek effects were good, but they are hardly deserving of an Oscar. You guys on the podcast summed it up best when you said they were like TV effects.

Shame. Visuals are the best thing about the Transformers movies.

Then again, we don't need the Academy to acknowledge that.

Doesn't matter. The winner was decided months ago.

star trek? are you kidding me?

well I guess what really hurt Transformers is that the robots are so damn blurry half the time you can't even tell what's going on

I would have voted T savlation for their cgi arnold, I thought that was pretty wicked lol it looked totally real

Oh the fan rage should be fun to watch on this one. You thought losing to a polar bear caused people to cry foul it should be fun to see the reaction to not even making the last cut for what might be it's only big award if Transformers 3 can't get the award either.

I'll be honest,Alot of ROTF looked way too much like a video game,Mainly the scene with the Hatchlings and the Forest fight close ups along with some of the Devastater scenes,And from what i've seen of Star Trek,The CGI is't much better than ROTF,So i'll be routing for Avatar all the way.

I love that it's the only category with only 3 nominees (VFX). I guess it was a "been there, done that" feeling for Transformers by the nominations committee (or however the nominations are selected).

I don't know if Transformers will even win sound mixing. There were some good mixes (especially Dev's sound mixing), but I think it'll go to Trek. I'm surprised D9 wasn't on the sound mixing list. Maybe the documentary format hurt it in that category.

Well they are up against some serious competition there but TF2 didn't have any serious new sound to it. I mean there is so much that hasn't even been tapped into as far as sound and eye candy for this series it isn't funny. I hope we get more in the next movie cause there are so many places to go with this movie series.

Avatar would've won, but ROTF totally should've been there instead of Star Trek.
