Transformers Next Gen - Reinventing G1

I know that the title isn't too creative, but that's the best title I could think of to describe the series.

So, TFNG is not so much a continuation G1, but more of a reinvention of it. Sort of like taking the concept, and using my own style of storytelling, while trying to keep the characters the way they are. Something I wish to point out is that most of the character designs are based on the Classics toyline of characters (IE: Bumblebee, Optimus, Megatron, etc.). Characters who have not yet had a Classics design or anything that could fit in with those designs will not be described much here, other than their Cybertronian forms which don't really matter in terms of detail.

I'll be posting these in parts so you can get a little bit of the story as I make it. Like... the first chapter itself will be posted up until the switch over to the Decepticons side of the story. You get the idea.

Also, if anyone would like to help design some of the Cybertronian designs, I'd be very grateful. Help would be appreciated. :)

With that said, enjoy the story!

    [Chapter 1: Search - Part 1]

Long ago, there was a planet far off in another galaxy. A planet known as Cybertron... On this planet existed lifeforms who took on the form of vehicles, they were known as Transformers. The Transformers lived in peace, for a time, until a discovery was made - Energon. It was a source of energy which they could use to power their equipment, and soon became a source of war...

For years, a war broke out between the Cybertronians who craved the Energon to use for weaponry and war machines, the Decepticons, and those who sought to protect their planet from the Decepticons and use the Energon for good, the Autobots. These factions battled it out until finally, the Autobots appeared to have won. However, many Decepticons still exist, but have since then been secluded in the far reaches of the galaxy, as well as on Cybertron itself. Now the battle against the Decepticons is drawing to a close, but they have not yet given in...

Among the dark and metal terrain of Cybertron, a lone purple Decepticon enters an abandoned power plant. While he may not know it, an Autobot is on his trail, seeking information. This young Autobot followed him into the power plant, hiding among its machinery. As the purple Decepticon stepped inside, he spoke into his intercom, "Megatron, I've arrived at the location you specified." He said in a dignified voice, one that indicates a hint of age.

With a short pause, he continues, "No, I don't see any yet, unfortunately. This location seems to have not been touched since the war began. Perhaps we should find some other source of energy." He suggested. At this point, the young Autobot was curious as to what was going on, and couldn't hold back. "Hey, cyclops!" The Autobot yelled, coming out of hiding. The Decepticon turned back to his direction, "An Autobot!" He exclaimed. "The name's Bumblebee!" The young, yellow Autobot said as he took out a laser gun and shot at the Decepticon.

Taking damage and stumbling forward, the Decepticon gathered his strength quickly and faced the Autobot, Bumblebee. He then raised his left arm toward him, which revealed that he had a laser gun in place of a hand. With that, the Decepticon shot at Bumblebee a few times, enough to knock him to the ground. Afterwards, he shot a hole in the roof of the power plant, then proceeded to fly out of the area. "You've not heard the last of the Decepticons!" He shouted as he was soon out of sight. Defeated, Bumblebee gathered his strength, then transformed into a yellow hover vehicle and proceeded to exit the area.

Back at the Autobot headquarters, Bumblebee returned to report his status. He walked into the large room and approached a large red and blue Autobot, their leader. "Optimus Prime, sir. I spotted a Decepticon." He said, cringing at the damage done to his shoulders. The Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, turned to him, noticing his damages. "Bumblebee, are you alright?" He asked, showing concern. "Just a scratch, sir...." Bumblebee assured him. Regardless, a medical Autobot stepped forward to examine Bumblebee. "Nonsense, kid, you're injured! Come on, lemme take you to the operating room." The Autobot said, grabbing him by the hand and leading him to another room.

While in the operating room, Optimus entered to check on Bumblebee. "Ratchet, how serious are the damages?" Optimus asked the medical Autobot. "Hmm... He's been shot pretty hard. Whoever did it had a pretty strong firearm." Ratchet said as he was using a tool to zap at the damaged joints of Bumblebee. Bumblebee cringed at the pain as he spoke, "I'll manage, sir..." He said assuringly to Optimus. "Tell me what you know about this Decepticon, Bumblebee." Optimus said as he stood by him.

"Well, he was a tall, purple bot with one eye. And it was dark, but it looked like he only had a gun over his hand." Bumblebee described. One of the other Autobots in the room overheard while working with a computer, then spoke up, "That must've been Shockwave. Kid, you're lucky he didn't turn ya to scrap." The bot said immediately. Bumblebee looked over to him, "You know him, Wheeljack?" He asked. Wheeljack nodded as he turned his seat toward Bumblebee.

"I tangled with him during the war. Managed to cut off one of his hands. He ended up attaching a gun to his arm to replace it, and a strong one at that. With that kind of firepower, I wonder why he didn't just waste ya..." Wheeljack pondered. "I followed him to an old power plant, he spoke to Megatron over an intercom about finding a new source of energy..." Bumblebee explained. At this point, Optimus stroke the chin of his face-plate in curiosity, "Hmm... That means the Decepticons are planning some sort of attack. Bumblebee, what happened to Shockwave?" Optimus asked.

"He got away sir... Once he shot me down, he flew out from the roof." Bumblebee said disappointedly. "I see... Perhaps if we go to the power plant, we'll be able to track him down." Optimus responded. "Bumblebee, once your damages are repaired, I'll need you and Wheeljack to come with me. We'll find those Decepticons, and put a stop to them before it's too late!" Optimus proclaimed.

    [Chapter 1: Search - Part 2]

After much thinking, here's part 2. Kinda had a nice transition here from Autobots to Decepticons.

    -----------------------------------

Meanwhile, the Decepticon, Shockwave, traveled to a far away and abandoned part of Cybertron. While the ground below him seemed harmless, a part of it began to open up, revealing a hangar. Shockwave descended down into this hangar, as the ground began to close up above him. He then transformed back into his robot mode and proceeded to enter the main room of the area, which was a small headquarters owned by the Decepticons.

"Megatron, sir... I've returned safely." Shockwave said in a slightly disgruntled tone. A large silver and black bot stepped forward to greet him, holding a large cannon on his right arm and having mighty silver wings suspended onto his back - This was Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. "Shockwave, your communication was cut off. What happened?" Megatron asked.

Shockwave immediately bowed to him, "I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience, your majesty. I was attacked by a lone Autobot upon my arrival to the location. His attack caused my intercom to short circuit, I will have it fixed soon enough." Shockwave explained. Megatron crossed his arms and turned away, but nodded lightly, "I see. If there was no energy source, then it's fine. Just be more careful next time." He said forgivingly.

"Thank you, lord Megatron..." Shockwave replied humbly. A winged red, silver and blue Decepticon ran into the headquarters from the hangar, seeming in a panic. "LORD MEGATRON!" He shrieked as he ran into Shockwave, who fell to the ground with him. Megatron turned to the bumbling Decepticon with a scowl on his face, "Starscream, you idiot. What do you want?" He asked coldly. Starscream got back up along with Shockwave, who walked over to a computer in the room. "My apologies, sir." Starscream said as he bowed politely and regained his posture.

"While I was on patrol with Rumble, he detected a frequency Northwest of here that I'm sure you'll find interesting." Starscream explained. A short red and black Decepticon came from the hangar behind Starscream. Megatron looked to him, "Rumble, explain." He said to little Decepticon. "Sure thing, yer evilness." Rumble said in a sarcastic tone. He revealed a satellite and listening device on his right shoulder, which then proceeded to play a recording of the frequency.

"Yo Blurr, this is Jazz. You sure about heading out to that part of Cybertron alone?" One Autobot voice spoke. "Absolutely, definitely! We have to make sure the Decepticons don't find this Energon supply, and what better place to hide it than an old, old, old dead location that has absolutely no energy at all?" A second, high-tempo voice replied. "All right, calm down! If you're really sure then just call when you need backup. Jazz, out!" And with that, the recording ended.

Megatron stayed silent, simply stroking his chin in thought. "In my research on the Autobots, Blurr is one of the weaker of the bunch. It would be the perfect opportunity to hold one of their own hostage, and trade him for Energon!" Starscream eagerly exclaimed. Megatron glared at him, "Out of the question. One of our own has been spotted and attacked already, I refuse to let it happen again." He answered, declining Starscream's idea.

"But Megatron!" Starscream exclaimed. "Return to your post, Starscream, Rumble." Megatron said, dismissing any further discussion on the matter. Starscream showed a sign of anger as he walked back out with Rumble. As they left the hangar and returned to the surface, Starscream looked around their location. "What're you plannin'?" Rumble asked him suspiciously. Starscream let out a smirk, "I don't care what Megatron says. You and I are going to wait for that Autobot. I'll show him who the rightful leader should be..." Starscream explained profoundly.

    -----------------------------------

I may be working on part 3 soon now. It'll have some more Autobot and Decepticon favorites I think. :)

Actually, you know what? I think this second part is a fitting end to the chapter. Next part will be the beginning to chapter 2!

I've now also launched the site for this fanfic, which you can see Here. Profiles will be up soon!

Hope I am not being offensive by offering my advise, if so let me know. There is definately a good foundation for a story there. As you write, I suggest that you think about some sub-plots between the bots (it is a great way to expand word count and helps you flesh out the rest of the world and the characters). Grammar is a little problematic, but all in all not bad. I look forward to reading more.
