Here's part ten! Aaron's 499 By: Bumblebee765 Brad Keselowsky wins again in the #2 car! The #24 car gets slammed into the wall, and more Autobots are injured. The #11 is hit by the #14 during a crash that also involved the #29… -Monday, May 7, 2012 The race gives Ratchet even more work than just operating on Denier. Rev was the first Autobot damaged during the race. Then Speedstrike ran into his sister Huntress in a crash that damaged Death Track as well. They were all lying on operating tables in a side room connected to the medical chamber. Normally Ratchet would have repaired and sent Death Track and Rev on their way. They had minor injuries. Huntress and Speedstrike also had minor injuries, but due to their split-Spark they needed to stay in stasis longer, just to be sure there would be any after effects. Unfortunately these weren’t normal circumstances for Ratchet. Denier, who he had been working on for about two weeks now, was still in critical condition. She was his priority number one at that moment. She was almost up and running again, almost… Yet, he had still found time to work on the others. Rev should be out of there within the next day or two, and Death Track would be following him shortly after. Huntress and Speedstrike would have to wait longer. Ratchet turned back to Denier after gazing at his other patients. The other Autobots thought he was amazing, that he could perform miracles, etc. He knew he wasn’t. Every Autobot he failed to save back on Cybertron was a blow to him. He was rarely involved in the physical fighting of the war, but being a field medic there were the occasional skirmishes he was involved in. He rarely got physical blows, but his emotional ones stung all the worse… He could never remember their names, but he never forgot the faces. Flickering or black optics, mouths (if they still had them) clenched tight in pain, and if their optics were bright as before, they were calling for the end… Often Ratchet could lock away those ghosts of his past, but seeing Denier, brave, willful Denier, lying of the operating table brought back those haunting memories. He had fixed her arm and faceplate, and had even been able to put her left optic back into its socket. Her left leg was much better than it had been even last week, but it would still require some work. He converted his right hand into a welding tool and began work on Denier’s leg. Most of the damage was just simple armor damage, and the only reason she hadn’t some back online already is because Ratchet was keeping her under. She didn’t need to feel this pain. He knew what it was like back on the field back on Cybertron; when he didn’t have the machinery necessary to put Autobots into stasis. They just had to suck it up and work through the pain… -Tuesday, May 8, 2012 Denier was doing much better. He leg was almost fully repaired, and she would be allowed out of stasis hopefully this week. Ratchet took advantage of that fact and turned his attention to his other patients. Rev was up first. Ratchet used a laser scalpel to cut away the damaged area of his armor. Then he could get to his damaged inner workings easier. His damaged seemed to be rather minimal. Ratchet peered at Rev’s darkened insides with a small wrist-mounted flashlight. His frame seemed to have buckled slightly, that would be easy to fix, but other than that there seemed to be no other interior damage. He would have to wait until Rev was fully back online to be sure, but for now Ratchet had something to keep him busy. He used his scalpel to cut away some of Rev’s frame and converted his hand from the scalpel to a small hammer. The hammer wasn’t large enough to do damage in battle, but then again, that’s not what it was for. He placed the damaged piece of Rev’s frame in a vice and converted his other hand into a small flamethrower. He heated the piece until it had a slight red glow about it, then he went to work hammering it back into its proper shape. After repeating that process for some hours, Ratchet was finally able to reattach it to the rest of Rev’s body. He used the small welder he had used the past day to weld it back into position before using his laser scalpel again to cut loose another damaged piece. When he finally finished repairing and reattaching the damaged pieces of Rev’s frame, Ratchet started work on the damaged piece of his armor. He did the same thing he had done to the frame pieces to hammer the armor piece back into shape. He walked back over to Rev and reattached it. When he scanned his next vehicle mode the welding mark would be reformatted away. -Thursday, May 10, 2012 The previous day Ratchet had sent Rev on his way, and had also done the same procedure he had done to Rev to Death Track. The damage to Death Track’s armor and frame was much more extensive than Rev’s, but thankfully there was still no damage to his internal systems. With only three patients in his care, Ratchet had much less on his mind. He welded more of Denier’s armor back into place with relative ease. Most of it was already done, but there were still some small points he had to reinforce or even replace. Hopefully Denier would be back on her feet, or more accurately her wheels, the next day. The Spark-siblings were still lying on their operating tables close together. Ratchet was saving them for last, as he usually did, because he would have to operate on them together. Since when one was brought back online then the other would come back too. Ratchet once again turned his attention away from Denier, and then decided to concentrate on the other two. He cut away their damaged armor, all of it. Huntress had more damaged than Speedstrike. Looking inside with his small flashlight he thankfully saw that the crash had done the same to them as it had done to Rev and Death Track; merely damaged their frame. He cut out the broken parts and got to work. He started with Huntress’s first, doing the same to it that he had done to Rev and Death Track’s before hers. The methodical work was calming to him. This is what he was built for. His only duty was to save lies in a war that only tried to take them away. After several hours of fixing the Spark-siblings damaged frames he was finally almost done. He had finished the damaged that had been inflicted on the front of their vehicle modes, and now only needed to fix the slight damage Huntress had taken on the right side of her alternate mode when her brother ran into her during the crash. Soon all he would have had to do was hammering their armor back into shape and replace that. Then he would be able to bring them both back online. He had just finished tightening the vice around the piece of Huntress’s inner frame when he heard the door open behind him. He turned around and saw Optimus Prime entering the dimly lit medical chamber. “How are they?” the leader of the Autobots asked. “Much better; I assume you’ve seen Rev and Death Track out and about?” Ratchet said in response. “Yes, Rev’s in the training area with Jazz, and I believe Death Track is in the shooting range with, big surprise, Ironhide.” “Good, I guess that means they’re suffering no more ill effects from the crash,” Ratchet said, relieved. “Denier here should be up and running soon and these two should be online around the same time.” “Keep up the good work, old friend,” Optimus said before leaving the room. As he walked away Ratchet said in a small voice, “Thank you, sir…” He shook his head to clear his thoughts before getting back to his work. He walked back over to the vice and used his flamethrower again to heat the metal. When it was hot enough he hammered it back into shape, repeating the process when the metal grew too cold. After repeating the process many times he was able to begin working on shaping their armor. He started with the section that went on the right side of Huntress’s vehicle mode. As he hit the armor sparks shot up from the striking point as usual. Every time he was that he was reminded of the bullets that would strike off his hiding places during the war on Cybertron. Often he would have to erect small shelters to operate on his patients on the open areas of his home planet. They wouldn’t last long, but they would last long enough. Some of his worst experiences as a medic were when they didn’t work. He recalled the time he was working on an Autobot whose legs had been chopped off. His fellow field medic, Red Alert, had brought the soldier to him, and they had busily worked to build up a work space where Ratchet could work on the soldier in relative safety. The shelter was bare-bones and built out of any supplies they could find lying around, just like all the others. Red Alert had gone around the wall on the right side to fend off any Decepticons that might think to take out the easy target. Ratchet was working on the Autobot soldier. Thankfully Red Alert had managed to bring the soldier’s legs as well, so Ratchet’s job was easier than it could have been. The procedure was going as they usually did. Ratchet was working on the Autobot’s legs while trying to ignore the screams of pain. After the first leg had been attached the shelter failed. Ratchet had been turned around reaching for the other leg when it happened. One bullet had managed to get through, but it was enough. The bullet flew right under the soldier’s outstretched arm and flew through his already weak armor right towards his Spark. As the Autobots Spark slowly began to fail Ratchet held onto the Autobots hand; trying to ease him into being one with the AllSpark. Ratchet could still remember what the Autobot looked like. He wore a pink-tinted visor on his blue head. The rest of his torso was a dark blue, but his legs were a teal color. His left hand was still converted into a small gun when he was killed. He had two wheels on his back, and two more on his heels. It was the Autobots last words that haunted Ratchet the most, however: “At least it was me… You still have… a chance… to make this world… right…” Ratchet remembered every Autobot that passed into his care with extreme detail. If only he could remember the brave soldier’s names, and give them the honor they deserved. As he recalled the times on Cybertron he had been able to repair and reattach Huntress’s armor. Now he would start on Speedstrike’s, and after that it would be time to fix the rest of Huntress’s armor. He would reattach them after he fixe both, so he could bring them back online at the same time. -Friday, May 11, 2012 Ratchet had finished repairing Speedstrike and Huntress late in the night, before turning his attention back to Denier, who was already almost ready to be brought back online. As usual, Ratchet had been right; she would be back online by the end of the week. Ratchet gave her one last inspection before walking over to the machine that was hooked up to her keeping her in stasis. He placed his hand on the switch that would bring her back and he looked over his shoulder at his still form once more. He pulled the switch and her right optic light up a powerful blue color. Her left optic remained dark. She screamed as soon as she realized she was back online. Thankfully the walls of the medical chamber were sound proof. She calmed down shortly after; whatever she had experienced must have been horrifying… Data File:Autobot Data File Ratchet Technical Data: Strength: 7 Intelligence: 10 Speed: 9 Endurance: 9 Rank: 8 Courage: 10 Fireblast: 5 Skill: 9 Bio: Ratchet has been a field medic since the early days of the war. He’s been in countless battles, and seen countless Autobot soldiers wounded beyond repair. It’s the ones that don’t die instantly that Ratchet busies himself with. He’s seen many Autobots come into his care, and seen just as many leave his capable hands. However, they don’t always leave the way he’d like them to. Many of his patients died simply due to the lack of supplies. Ratchet never stopped trying though, for every Autobot he lost he tried just that much harder to save another. Back on Cybertron Ratchet worked closely with other medics, growing especially close to one named Red Alert. Ratchet doesn’t have a signature weapon, since he doesn’t do much fighting. He’s armed with a basic machine gun, but his various medical tools can be used to perform miracles. *Sorry, I still can't find an image of Ratchet's alternate mode... When I find one I'll post it ASAP!
