It's weird, to my ear "Jetstorm" is much acceptable a name than "Stormjet."

I guess it's because the second word is the subject, while the first word is the modifer.
A literal subject is, I think, worse than a literal modifier.

    Jetstorm = a jet-like storm. That's fine, pretty cool.
    Stormjet = a storm-like jet. That's too literal.

"Wolfang" and "Fang Wolf" are a similar case.
Plus, Wolfang has the added advantage of being a portmanteau.

Found this guy; Universe 2.0 Mini-con Snow Cat. Weird that two characters are named after their Alt modes that are both named Snow Cat and don't transform into the same thing 1489437424346-1923985868.jpg

Hot Rod: Alt-Mode is a Stylized "Rod"
Scattershot? His alt-modes had vehicles that had multiple guns, so???
Maybe the Breast Force members, because they are named after their Breast plate and their breastplates were animals, so ?
    EX.: Jallguar (Jaguar) Drillhorn (Rhino)

    Wingwaver of the Multiforce

    Wing- Jet
    Waver- Boat

    The breastforce's animal partners

    The Rescue Bots (Kinda)

That would make for some hilarious dialogue

"Truck! we have to stop Walther P-38 and Cassette Player"

"Fighter jet! Take Blue fighter Jet and Cassette tape 1 & 2, and go attack T-rex and Ambulance"

I didn't even realize that Snow cat's vehicle mode was called a snow cat.

Hot Rod transforms into a hot rod.

Not sure if you're counting Japanese names but Ravage is Jaguar which is also what his beast mode is suppose to be.

Pretty much every Jet former with the word Jet right in their name.

    Ape face is an ape.

Tankor is a tank or tanker truck when the name was reused for what should have been Octain.

There are also Transformers with names that make them sound like they should turn into something but they never do. Bumblebee and Hound for example. There's also a couple with Jet names who aren't jets.

Longrack, I think? I'd say Iguanus, but he doesn't turn into an Iguana. :lol

Ratbat, technically. I keep thinking of characters that have names that "almost" have names based on what they turn into. Do Sharkticons count? Apeface, technically Snapdragon, Doubleheader?

I don't think I'm very good with this. :lolol  If you can't tell.

The McDonald's Beast Wars figures were literally just named after their beast modes (Manta Ray, Rhino, Panther and Beetle.)

Sixgun. He is literally six guns.

Also, doesn't Slammer become the "prison" section on Metroplex? In that case, him too.

Blaster - his tape deck mode is known as a Ghettoblaster.

Blast Off - because what the hell else 'blasts off' besides rockets (of both two-people-and-a-cat and giant tube kinds) and space shuttles? A harrier?:rolleyes2

Scoop - dude turns into a front loader.

Erector - do I really even need to explain how cranes work?

Kup - literally, as in picKUP.

Ramjet - moreso for what he does with his alt. mode than simply the alt. mode itself.

Hoist - tow truck, do the math

CW Viper - as close as possible here, as the name comes from the Cobra Viper plane, which looks similar to the A-10 that the toy has for an alt. mode.

Searchlight - the G1 throttlebot has more headlights than a rally car, while the PCC version has a minicon partner (Windbreak? Breakwind? I just know there were a lot of fart jokes made about the name) that turns into the searchlight assembly for the twin-rotor heli.

Optimus Prime - his japanese name is Convoy. Now google "C. W. McCall Convoy" and click the first youtube link. The song is even funnier if you think of it in terms of Optimus rallying the Autobots to fight against an entirely police-themed army of Decepticons.

(ROTF) The Fallen - because that's what it looks like happened to him instead of, y'know, an actual alt. mode.

Actually, his original toy's gun mode with his blasters attached to the sides gives him six barrels, or six shots at once.

I think this is only suppose to be transformers who are named after their alternate mode as in the noun not what their alternate modes are designed to do as in the verb. So Shuttler counts but Blast Off doesn't. Unless you know of a shuttle that is literally named the Blast Off.

Would Blurr count? I think Blurr would count.

Energon Insecticon too. Just take a guess what he turned into.

    Goldbug too.

Several of the Armada game Mini-Cons fit too. Off the top of my head, Deflector, Tractor, Comeback, and Airburst. Probably a few more in there.

Also, if this was about robot modes, CW Hot Spot. Sexy motherfucker.

I thought that modified Cobra A-10 toy was called the Rattler? Am I misremembering something? I think I remember reading that his alt-mode is an homage to the Rattler vehicle, while his robot mode is an homage to Cobra Viper troops.

Also, I think this thread is meant to be about TFs whose names are literally the denotative word for their alt-mode. I think some of those examples are a bit more... abstract(?) to fit.

That sounds more accurate - though specifically, Viper himself I believe has markings of Wild Weasel's plane. WW flew a Rattler, so it all works out.
