An armored money transport van just seems so not Ironhide. I can see him as a SWAT transport van, thou.

Great eye to those who pointed out the coywboy hat, too. Ironhide's gonna stomp a mudhole in some Decepticon frame. (Maybe the truck that Ironhide scans his earth form from will be driven by Austin  .)

 

Bas-ass black pick-up truck with huges guns or wimpy red minivan and almost no weapons? Hmm... bad-ass pick-up truck.

 

Ironhide has often been seen as a bit of a rough and tough cowboy, more so even than Prime. If they're incorporating that aspect of his personality into his very design, you can bet we're going to hear it in his words and see it in his actions. I think people are excited about that.

 

So far they seem to have got the characters spot on. If the bios are translated to the movie screen characterisation I don't see a problem...

 

So far Ironhide, looks pretty awesome. I love his vehicle mode I believe is more appropiate to his personality than G1 tender van...

 

I'm with you on the head scratching at the great love of a bull-headed Ironhide. It looks like a slightly more stylized Power Ranger Zord's head, and that just doesn't qualify as "awesome" without better reasoning.

At least one of them finally looks like something other than an insect.

Not feeling the armored car though. Honestly, I think the GMC truck is a fine choice considering the fact that vans went from the thing to have (back in the 70s and 80s) to the soccer mom's chariot.

 

alittle offtopic here but, anyone know what GMC model Ironhide is based on?

 

G1 Ironhide was heavily armoured?

*watches the old movie* He must have taken off the armour.

 

He was supposed to have been constructed of a really dense alloy. However a) Megatron's ridiculously powerful, b) the movie is little better than the series for screwups, and c) if he'd just stood there and said "What are you trying to do exactly?" It would have been funny, but also would have buggered the movie's plot.

 

1. It fits his character

2. It's memorable

3. It'll make him unique amongst the other characters.



Ol' G1 Ironhide' head was so generic that before we saw Alt Skids painted, many of us thought it was Ironhide. Each character in this new continuity is unique and memorable; I like that. I imagine kids and adults alike will be able to have stronger ties to the characters because of it.

 

He's a custom GMC TopKick crew cab - you're not gonna find one like it at the neighborhood dealer. The TopKick is a HUGE truck - you don't see people using them as personal trucks that much - they're mostly used for towtrucks, etc.

And the reason he's black is because OP is already red (and blue) - none of the Autobots are the same color.

 

Will look better on my shelf. "Those jeans look great, sweetie, they'd look better crumpled on the floor!"

 

Yah. Two giant red trucks would get confusing, I think.

 

I want one! Not a bad toy at all.

 

That IS a great bio!  

Of course, there's nothing in the Ironhide toy or movie design (from what we've seen so far) that indicates that he's as worn-out as the bio suggests. His paint and hip look pretty fine from what I've seen.

I dont know. Something about that vehicle mode seems 'Offs' to me. Almost like they took a real pickup and squished the front of it. Looking at pics of the original vehicle, it doesnt look that exagerated in RL.

I love the bio, though.

 

Not a Ford. It says "GMC" right on the front of the truck and "Topkick" on the back of the box, leading me to belive it's a GMC Topkick (crazy, I know!).





Aside from the crazy-ass huge side fuel tanks Ironhide has going on, the alt mode looks pretty dead-on to me.
