Knowing my area, West Coast US, the toys will be three to four months after the due date.

Though this is an exact date and not a target month I think these will follow the typical trend of showing up sooner than we expected.

I'm looking forward to seeing Don Murphy rant at the cowardly, friendless marketing guys in Hasbro. He's always good for a giggle... ;-)

But, so we have a release date, eh? I'm presuming that's for the US, though? What about the UK? That said, do we even know when the film'll be released in the UK? If it's 4th July in the US, then I presume that the Australian release date will be somewhere around July 11th, and the UK release date will be sometime in 2008/2009, at the few cinemas that can be bothered to show it. Not that it'll matter, of course, because we'll have all seen it on bootleg copies from Hong Kong by that point... ;-)

    *squeeeeal*

    ahem,

good news, I know I will buy a few, even if the movie disappoints (which means it has to be as bad as those really lame Orginal Transformers read alongs)

And at the least, pending on finances, a bumblebee and barricade, for chase sequences when no one is looking

That is pretty much how it goes over here, yeah. I'm hoping that Hasbro will have enough brains to actually market this line, what with a major live-action movie coming out and everything.
Or maybe they only do that with crappy Star Wars prequels.

Soon (well, relatively soon) my Classics Bumblebee and Movie Bumblebee can have a climactic battle to decide who's the cutest.

As long as we get a toy of Megatron riding a motorcycle and Optimus Prime feet with real stomping action, I'll be happy. :lol

Well, the only thing I hope is that the CLASSICS line doesn't get cancelled because of this line. If I had to choose I'd be picking the CLASSICS line.
We might have a 4 lines of CLASSICS before June comes along. Maybe I should start a petition now.. but i guess it's only speculation.

Hey, I actually liked the Star Wars prequels... ;-)

But that's not the point, really. It is very annoying that the Star Wars Transformers appear to have near-simultaneous worldwide release dates, but normal Transformers we have to wait months for. It's just not on.

I for one will be very surprised if I walk into my local Toysaurus next year and discover a whole dedicated display wall full of Transformers stuff, like they had for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Carribbean, and, er, Bratz...

    You said more after this.

    I...don't care?

    A) You don't live near me, so far as I know

    B) Who said my qualm was with the movie fans alone?

I'm doing this for shits and giggles. Besides, heck - I just might have been joking! Ever think of that?

Oh yeah, again I repeat my prediction of Optimus robot fists with 'clanging metal' sound effects when they hit something.

yeah...especially if Michael Bay doesn't want us to see what they look like until the movie is in theatres.

So, given this info, should we expect Star-Wars-prequel-esque midnight dealies at Wal-Marts and TRUs? If so, sign me up!

I'll be surprised if that's actually the case, though. Likewise if stores even stick to the date at all, really.

Just like with the Star Wars prequels, a full month before the release.

Nice. Hope to see some movie toys by july here.

Well, in light of what we know regarding the heights of the characters, it would be nice if Hasbro kept the character/toy scale as close as they could. Basically, divide the character heights in feet by 1.6 to get the toy heights in cm. Here are the heights we know and how they'd fall into the size classes using this 1.6 reduction:

Megatron (34') = 21.3 cm tall (Ultra class)
Optimus (28') = 17.5 cm tall (Mega class)
Ironhide (26') = 16.3 cm tall (Mega class, small but in there)
Ratchet (24') = 15 cm tall (Deluxe class, larger, but definitely not unheard of)
Bumblebee (17' IIRC) = 10.6 cm tall (Basic class)
Jazz (13') = 8.1 cm tall (ehh, bump him up a couple of cm for a solid Basic)

    Assumed general heights:
    Starscream (34') = 21.3 cm tall (Ultra)
    Bonecrusher (28') = 17.5 cm tall (Mega)
    Brawl/Devastator (38') = 23.8 cm tall (Super)
    Barricade (15') = 9.4 cm tall (Basic)
    Blackout (40') = 25 cm tall (Super)
Soundwave (4') = 2.5 cm tall (OK, this reduction doesn't work for SW, but a minicon or basic would do)
