There's a large amount of movie comics now, and i was wondering whether i should check them out. The only movie comic i read was the prequel to the '07 movie, which i found okay. Are the rest of the comics better? are they firmly fitted in movie continuity? I'm just itching for more satisfying Transformers comics to read, since IDW's G1 comics went off the rails....
Would i have to read the rest to get the most out of them? EDIT: Minds made up anyway. Gonna get all but the adaptions, i think... Thanks.
I second Defiance. The Reign of Starscream is also a good read, as are some of the Tales of the Fallen issues.
Reign of Starscream and Defiance were the best in my opinion. Alliance was lacking IMO and should only be bought if you're still itching after RoS and Defiance. Then, if you're still really itching, jump on Tales of the Fallen from Jetfire onward. Check out my reviews of the first two issues Bumblebee and Sideswipe (the thread is titled 'Tales of the Fallen #1' and 'Tales of the Fallen #2). I thought they were very, very subpar story and art-wise.
My favorite movie comics were definitely Defiance, even though the artwork was a little... well, let's just say I didn't like it that much. Alliance was a little lacking, and ROS was pretty good. Let's see, are there any other movie comics I've read? Oh yeah, Saga Of The Allspark. That was pretty shitty, IMHO. I can't wait until the TOTF TPB comes out, sounds real interesting.
I believe as a whole they're the best TF fiction IDW's got since they went all reboot-happy. Reign of Starscream is the best, Alliance & Defiance are also fantastic though they don't match up completely with the movie, and though the first couple issues of TotF are rather dull, #3 picks it up and #5 should continue that escalation with Milne's great art.
The ROTF movie adaptation is pretty much what you'd expect, and three out of the four issues have terrible art, mitigated only by the good art in issue #3.
Well, Reign of Starscream is the best TF comic I've ever read. And Alliance is awesome. And Defiance is well-written and has good art and bad art. So yeah. They're worth it.
I just finished reading the Reign of Starscream TPB. It does its reputation justice. Though, the last page outlines some scrapped work in progress scripts...some of which would have been maybe even more awesome.
