If there's two things the Japanese have an affection for giant city destroying monsters and mecha. This movie combines the two. In other words Japan is going to help destroy the box office records. :D

On a side note. I wonder how they'll react when the hear Sam uttering the line 'It's probably Japanese.'

I've wondered that... maybe they'll dub it to say 'Probably South Korean' or something? :D

    You know what this means?

Transformers II victory in the box-office is assured! the producers may now feel free to actually use Transformers in the sequel.

I reckon TF2 will do loads better - just like spiderman 2 and 3. There will be loads of people who will not see it at the cinema for the reasons mentioned above - but who will probably catch it on DVD or Sky at a later date and see what a cool movie it really is.

They will then be more likely to catch the sequel at the cinema.

At the time of posting, Transformers is #85 in the All-Time Worldwide grosses. None too shabby, considering some of the films it's already overtaken:

Not bad for a few weeks showing...give it a few more weeks, and who knows where it'll end up? :D

Since the international box office numbers don't include last week as of now, the totals will be even higher. As a sidenote Shrek 3 and PotC 3 featured similar sales for the first 20 days in the US. This might be an indication of how much more TF will make.

What gets me is the fact that people said this movie would tank because it didn't fit with the original fans and would barely recoupe its budget. In the words of Eric Cartman: hahahahaha nananananana! Who has the sig that has somebody quoting someone who said the movie would bomb, and has the current total gross? That goes to show you naysayers.

In terms of quality however, some of you may hate me for saying this, I do believe that T2 is the better of the two movies, but doesn't have the impact on us as giant transforming robots that beat the hell out of each other.

That would be Llamatron, quoting Phazer. Not sure if he's said anything about it yet or not.

Anyways, this is all good news. Even if you're a TF fan who didn't like the movie (or even just the designs) this kinda success is only going to help the franchise. Plus, with the return of Classics and a new cartoon that has a completely different style, theres no reason for them to fear that the designs are going to take over or anything. And, for those of us who enjoyed the designs, well, it looks pretty likely there will be another movie :p

He hasn't been here since the film came out, I believe he is hiding over at the Allspark with his fingers in his ears saying "nah nah nah nah nah nah I'M NOT LISTENING!" while still trying to argue that the film is not a success.

For people wondering what the big "must break" barriers are, it seems as though currently $300 M domestically and $800 Worldwide are the ones to hit to be considered a "super huge mega awesome smash success." If we keep up like this we should hit the $300 M domestic target, but I don't know about the $800 M worldwide.

It broke box-office records right through the roof in Malaysia.
