In a brief post on the ShootForTheEdit forums from Nelson, we are given a very small helping of information regarding sound related bits for the upcoming Transformers Movie.

Firstly he states to have spoken with Bay regarding Hugo Weaving and Michael Bay said that Weaving is doing an "awesome job". We also found out that the team who worked on the sounds for King Kong are working their magic on the Transformers Movie as well. To read the entry on the ShootForTheEdit forums click here.

Sounds like they got the 'best' of the 'best' working on this movie.
ILM, sound guys from KK, spielberg (is he still good? not from what I've seen recently... WotW, anyone?), MB doing the best action and explosion sequences, etc..

    Most sweet, indeed.

Interesting observation. I never really put that together. They really do seem to be aiming for the fences.

The story fell flat, but... there weren't any problems with the directing.

    IMHO.

Aside from that... Great news! It's reassuring knowing that they've got the heavy-hitters on board.

Oh, I thought that was Optimus Primal in the picture on the main page. :D  I'm sure the guys from Kong will do a good job.

WETA doing Beast Wars would certainly be interesting.

I think hearing Weaving as Megatron will sound a little weird at first, but I'm sure I'll adjust to it quickly. Just as long as he doesn't say, "Miiiister Optimus!", I'll be okay. :)

Funny, I think that would be a nice nod to The Matrix, but wouldn't it be "Miiister Prime!" ? :D  Good to reconfirm that no expense is being spared with this Transformers Movie.

People underestimate the importance of sound design in a movie. I mean, nobody ever says "cool, who did the sound for that film?" after leaving the cinema.
I'm glad to hear it's going to a team with a good track record for the 'fantastic'.

I really would love some sort of hint as to how MEGATRON will sound. I have a hundred different possibilities running though my head right now.

Ha ha, I just find it funny that first they made Starscream look like King Kong and now they are using the same sound team from King Kong.

Hum, wonder if this means Starscream will make ape sounds now as well :)

Actually, I do; doing my own animation has given me a very healthy respect for the amount of work these guys do.

    Spielberg also directed Munich.

I'll leave that judgement up to you guys. I thought it was great, I honestly didn't know Spielberg could do a spy movie.

Sound design is kinda like some areas of Graphic Design where a lot of people don't take notice untill it's poorly done.

It's another one of those thankless professions:(

But I think Transformers could make more people pay attention to movie sounds. Because the look of these TFs are alien the sound fx these robots make should be pretty alien as well.

I think the last film I did that with might have been 300, which I thought the sound was incredible, right from the start of the movie with that first lightening bolt.

I agree with you on Megatron. I have a few ideas of how Hugo might sound with the character but it would be cool to get a solid idea.

True, it would be "Miiister Prime!" But I choose "Optimus" because it has the same number of syllables as "Anderson". I just thought it sounded better.

For anyone who says the story 'fell flat' feel free, but from what I've heard, what got on the internet probably wasn't the 'shooting script' or final draft. That wasn't the case for Batman Begins and it's probably not for this one. Yeah, WotW was a bit flat. Spielberg may be a legend, but he ain't perfect. He was bound to miss one eventually.
