The true defintion these days of failure is money not if critics like it.

That's why movies these days are sucking, Avatar IMO is not worthy of being Number 1 in the world.

I think that Charging $16-18 a ticket plays a big role in it. The number of tickets sold does not matter from past films.

lol, this is the stupidest topic I've seen in a long time. Bay has admitted the flaws of RotF, explained why it wasn't all that great (namely due to the writer's strike), and really seems to have put his best effort into making DotM not only make up for RotF, but be the best film of the three. And even if it doesn't live up to (already low) expectations, it'll still make a ton of money because, guess what, average moviegoers enjoy the TF movies for the brainless, action-packed summer popcorn flicks that they are.

And yet, you're hypothesizing that DotM will "destroy his career" based solely on the fact that critics hated RotF?

    Good call, man, good call.

(note: Bay is one of the most hated filmmakers in Hollywood, and was so before he did Transformers. If you think his career depends on the approval of the Hollywood film aristocrats and aesthetes, and not on how much money his films make, then you are terribly misinformed).

The business side of Hollywood loves someone like Bay because he has a good record of having films come in on budget.

Ok everyone, I am aware that Michael Bay will be making movies for quit awhile, the caliber of which shall be left up to him, I am aware a Director gets quite a few chances to fail(well, some do) and Michael has one strike against him, as far as his Credibility is concerned, if he FAILS again like he did with ROFLMAO!!!, HE WILL HAVE NONE IMHO. And as far as all his "MEGA" blockbusters, compare him to Cameron or Nolan's top grosser, hell even Tim Burton, or Zack Snyder, and he's not so impressive, especially when his two most successful movies are films that "sell themselves" as someone stated above. And apparently for most of you he can just film himself turding in a bowl for two and a half hours and you guys will lap it up like gravy, more power to ya! That's a wrap!

What does credibility have anything to do with a successful director getting hired to do blockbuster films for major studios?

    Total Theatrical Gross

    Zack Snyder = $883,731,782 - 4 films

    Christopher Nolan = $2,461,370,754 7 films

    Tim Burton = $2,948,918,037 - 14 films

    Michael Bay = $3,461,696,106 - 8 films

Yep a total failure. Poor Bay. It must suck to be him and to top it all off he has one strike against his credibility.Oh the horror.

Oh yeah, that one strike will do him in you know! Can't let him touch our Transformers with that one strike oh no!

Also, I don't recall Bay doing a movie called ROFLMAO.

Obvious (and incredibly poor) movie trolling is obvious. And indeed poor. If you wanted to have a directionless whinge about Michael Bay, you should have just done so from the start.

And this is going to destroy his career, how?

Who cares? Michael Bay loves what he is doing, and as long as it makes him money, so be it..

Michael Bay's career is just fine. The studio's love him.

Personally I can't stand most of his work, but he wouldn't give a tupenny fuck about that.

I view it in a similar way to ROTF - I like it, but sadly it has some flaws (mainly scenes that had to be deleted through lack of time, which in turn affected the story).

Me too. :(  I thought it was pretty awesome. :bay  I hope DotM has some of that "alien invasion/hopelessness"-feel to it.

Wait, so his career is going to keep going? So DOTM won't destroy it?

You do realize that you just completely destroyed the point you were trying to make, right?

Oh, and I like Spielberg's War of the Worlds as well. Never got the hate for that one, but that's neither here nor there.
