The Universe of the Transformers is vast, and populated by many characters. Their universe is a large tapestry, made up of the stories and points of view of countless experiences that serve the larger whole.

These are some of those stories. This is:

It should be noted that while this project has been recognized by IDW Publishing and Hasbro, none of the works presented have been commissioned or solicited by either company. The stories are not official canon, except where noted. These stories are the result of Transformers enthusiasts taking the time out of their busy days to contribute to a universe they love. No one has been paid for the production of these stories.

I don't get it. The last panel seems a bit disturbing, but that's just me ;)

I think the finishes on the artwork could be a bit better in places, but it's strong in places too. The coloring is really nice, and really helps the artwork out (which is what good coloring does :) ). I really like the layouts and the story - the trip back down the Marvel continuity is nice.

Many of the Mosaics come across as too emo for me, though. It's really a trend that I'd like to see tanked (except with a character like Dead End, where this sort of thing is indicative of his character. Some of my favorite Mosaics don't have this sort of self loathing/inner reflection thing going on.

Overall, this is another nice piece, though :thumb

The main goal of this Mosaic is an attempt at explaining the apparently hasty decision made by Optimus Prime in the infamous G1 Marvel US #24 "Afterdeath".
We all know that Bob Budiansky had been instructed by Hasbro to remove old characters and make room for new ones, but we can try and use some previous events from the Marvel US/UK mixed continuities to give a different version of the story.
The focus on Optimus Prime's inner thoughts is also meant to subtly connect to his resurrection in issue G1 Marvel US #42 and the subsequent reflections in G1 Marvel UK #198.
The connection is given by the fact that, in "Cold comfort and joy!", Optimus is completing an inner quest, discovering his own motivations to fight the good fight once again.
Our Mosaic is a prelude to the "spiritual rediscovery/rebirth" of that episode.

    Issue references.

    Panels 1, 6,7: G1 Marvel US #24

    Panel 2: G1 Marvel US #10

    Panel 3: G1 Marvel US #12

    Panel 4: G1 Marvel UK #83

    Panel 5: G1 Marvel US #19.

Panel 6: "Giri" is a reference to G1 cartoon episode "The burden hardest to bear".

Agreed that the last panel could probably use some rewording. :)  Otherwise it sounds like Optimus has gotten so depressed that he's gone to a cyber-brothel.

But it's taken from the original comic book! :°(

Let's hope the wrong authors won't read this :p

I get the feeling Prime saw his impeding death as an escape from being a "failure" in his eyes as leader.

Maybe he just want to take a break, and he planned to "retire" inside the experimental tech quantum-based floppy for the time to come, until some Autobots found him out and brought him back.
In "Cold Comfort and Joy", he seems to be still looking for the original reasons of his life choices.

Heh. One way it could have "held" all that data, while still being a normal floppy disk, might have been if the disk merely recorded a compressed version of the data needed to recreate the correct frequency 'key' to access the subspace pocket where Prime kept his Combat Deck, given that (a) the Deck wasn't seen again until after Optimus was revived, and (b) it would tie in with Optimus's consciousness-transfer ability in the IDW Escalation series.

Therefore: put the disk's data back into a sufficiently advanced computer (with access to the appropriate peripherals), and it could find the pocket in subspace where the Combat Deck was tucked, along with a copy of Prime's mind, and provide an interface to it.
