Hey Guys, I got these two kites the other day, does anyone have any information about them? possibly the value?
Probably not a whole lot. There's not a whole lot of demand for stuff like this (bags, cases, wallets, birthday hats, etc), but you could probably find someone who's interested in these, and would give you a fair price for them.
hate to tell you but my husband is a freight manager at the dollar tree and they have those kites there
even the newer ones are not worth anything...i scored a transformers energon MOSC kite off ebay two weeks ago for a whole 99 cents.
not sure if those are from 1985 or just reproduce but he even brought one home for our son. Not sure how to post pictures on here from my phone to prove it to you. But seriously, why would I lie over something so trivial as a kite?
I've never seen them at dollar tree myself and as far as I know this company isn't licensed to make these anymore (Hi-flier is a pretty reputable kite company). If Dollar tree has these they are most likely knock offs from China. I can't imagine them finding a ton of ancient overstock and selling it.
i got the one i did just because i have never seen a transformer kite and liked the picture of energon scroponok on it.
These are the original versions from 1984 & 1985. I got them from a collectible store for 2.00. I couldn't find out much about them online.
I'd buy 'em off ya if I wasn't moving soon. I love the old G1 kites. I have the Sideswipe triangle and Kickback dragon kites. One day I'd like to stumble across the Prowl one I've seen every once in a while. --Moony
Those are pretty nice looking..maybe some Energon kites could be flying around and possibly end up at the Dollar Tree..heck most people say they hated Energon, so yeah those could be out there. The wind range for those isn't all that much.. 5 to 12 mph..a strong gust of wind would tear those kites all to pieces. As for the G1 Optimus and Jetfire..highly unlikely for the Dollar Tree unless somebody found truckloads at an abandoned warehouse, then I would agree with the other post that suggested they would be knockoffs.
Just got a little bit of information about them. I live in Colorado, and Hi-Flier had moved to Penrose, Colorado in 1981, and since I bought them here, makes me belief they are the real deal. Hi-Flier had made the following kites: Kite, Prowl, Hi-Flier, 1984 Kite, Optimus Prime Hi-Flier, 1984 Kite, Sideswipe, Hi-Flier, 1984 Kite, Jetfire, Hi-Flier, 1985 Kite, Kickback, Hi-Flier, 1985 Kite, Snarl Hi-Flier, 1985 Kusanagi, I got them as a neat artifact and they will stay sealed.
Those G1 kites are indeed at the Dollar Dreams behind my house. Also there are Energon Armada and ROTF. It is quite possible they are from the 80s since that is indeed what the bags say. But I have noticed that it's pretty common to get old stuff from dollar stores. That said they don't have any value. They are worth a Buck each. But to me, who thanks to this post has just spent 8 bucks on kites, they are priceless.
Its not THAT unlikely. A few years ago I found a G1 Motormaster MISB at a liquidation store for $3. His box was half crushed, but everything was present and in perfect shape. Damn, I'm going to have to have a look at the Dollar stores over here before I leave next month! --Moony
the energon one that i own says xkites.com on the right side...that's the company that made it apparently...and there is a copy right 2003 on it...and it's made out of mylar...which is pretty durable...you might need to reinforce the string attachment points to get it to fly in stronger winds but there is no minimum wind rating on it....
What's funny is there are no seekers haha. The only Jet is Jetfire. You'd think with a kite they'd have planes. I'll double check dollar tree but they, as a chain, generally don't carry old stock. No other Dollar merchandise stores around here.
