I was very excited to see Simon Furman at TF Con in Toronto this summer, and the big news of the time was that the original Transformers comic would continue, from issue 81 until issue 100. But, since this I have heard nothing.

Does anyone know when issue 81 is supposed to be coming out? Is there any more information on this to be had?

So far, all we know is it is coming at some point in 2012. We've had the early 2012 solicitations, so it's not Jan-Feb.

What's taking so long for it to come out, anyway. The comic was announced months ago.

Well let's see. There's the fact a comic takes months to make. The fact the book was announced for a 2012 release. Then there's the fact IDW is already dealing with a large Transformers push for the two new ongoing so they don't want to be stepping on their own toes in terms of sales.

I was under the impression that it was supposed to come out in may.
I don't remember where I read it though, or if Simon Furman mentioned that at Auto Assembly Europe when I was there.

I don't think the writing or art takes that long but there is the whole factor of scheduling it and getting it printed and shipped that has to be factored in.

Comics can take a short time to write but on average an artist will take a day er page. Then they need to be inked and colored.

Plus, just because they announce it does not mean it will be out right away. With the idea of Comic-Cons being where they announce ideas, they put all ideas out on one weekend and stagger releases over the course of the year until the next con.

Dunno how Free Comic Book Day works abroad... sorry, friend. Hope you don't have to eBay it... do you know anyone that collects the Larry Hama GI Joe book? That also had a FCBD launch a couple of years back-

You'll have to look for a comic shop who participates in the FCBD giving. You can google the shops who participated this year, most likely they'll also join next year.

Almost every comic shop participates in FCBD, and they'll most likely have a big sale to try and lure you away from other stores. I'm thinking about going at night to avoid the crowds. I doubt Transformers will be the first comic book my shop runs out of
