    Hey gang,

I'm in Iceland for a month or so, so I've decided to keep you guys
aware of what the TF scene is like here at retail. The last time I was
here, I was amazed to see things like Premium Barricade and Stealth
Bumblebee. Sadly, having had a couple of days to look around, there is
no sign of them any longer as there was 6 weeks ago. Now I have only
seen Longarm warming 80% of the shelves. A stack of deep Desert Brawls,
which I would buy if they weren´t the equivalent of 120 US dollars. Saw
a few Nightwatch Primes for the same price, Jungle Bonecrusher, that
black movie SUV'type vehicle etc. Also saw looooads of Legends
Starscreams and Megatrons I think. Some fast action battlers and those
goofy super-deformed-style-movie-jumpstarter things. These were all at
    their chain supermarket store Hagkaup.

They also have a small TRU that opened this year and I'll no doubt have
a look in there before my stay here is over, but again last time they had little of major interest.

    All the best

Since last time I've been able to visit a few more branches of the Icelandic superstore "Hagkaup" (roughly translates as beneficial trading) in Reykjavik the capital of Iceland, and have found some more interesting Transformers stock. Restocks have also contributed to newer stock.

Here are some pictures of Hagkaup TF displays

The newer branch had one Premium Leader Movie Prime which cost about the equivalent of 106 US dollars (8499 ISK) and also a few Premium Movie Deluxe Jazz which were 2499 ISK, roughly 30 US. Premium Blackout and Ironhide voyagers seem to be in most branches of the chain store too. I haven't seen any Premium Barricased, Bumblebees, Megatrons, Ratchets or Starscreams yet. It also seemed to me that Iceland was getting only damaged Premium toys, badly painted with visible defects or bad packaging, but since then I have found a few mint examples. They are mostly damaged though which led me to believe that maybe they were getting damaged US overstock or something.

You can also see from the pictures that Rescue Ratchet, Thundercracker, First Strike Voyager Prime, Jungle Bonecrusher, Incinerator, Stealth Bumblebee, standard 08 Bumblebee, Stockade, Autobot Camshaft etc are in stock. Add to that a bunch of cyber-slammers incl Barricade, Cliffy, Ratchet, Prime and Bumblebee, Legends and FAB repaint Pulse cannon Ironhide, Sonic Shock Smokescreen and Rescue Ratchet. Robot Heroes with Magnus/Megatron and Jazz/TC selections and keychains, Real Gear were also available.

Now I also heard of a specialist hobby/comic store called "Nexus" in downtown Reykjavik which I just had to visit. On walking in the door I saw this:

Waves 1 and 2 Animated! Voyagers, leaders, deluxes...lots of things I had not seen in the UK. Oil SLick, Jazz, Soundwave and Snarl. They also had the Prime megs 2 pack. Add to that Classics 2.0 Sunstreaker, Prowl, Tankor etc. An excellent selection indeed. The guy was just unpacking most of it as I got there. The prices were excellent by Icelandic standards, better than Hagkaup. I bought a Deluxe Animated Jazz for 1999 ISK (24 US) compared to the 2499 ISK (30 US) for the Premium Deluxe Jazz at Hagkaup. Apparently he did have Lugnut and Grimlock but they had already sold out or been reserved. He said he didn't receive any Blackarachnia. You can see the various movie toys and repaints also stocked there.

I also met a very nice collector from Iceland by the name of Kjartan, he hadn't heard of 2005 so I directed him here. If you're reading this mate, hello!

More updates when I have had a chance to revisit Nexus, a few more Hagkaups and TRU here in Reykjavik. There was also adverts for a TRU up North in Akureyri, but I didn't get a chance to visit that when I was in the North over the last few days.

Absolutely beautiful country by the way...

Wow that seems expensive. $106 for Prime?

Yep that's Iceland, the world's most expensive Big Mac, PS3s that cost the equivalent of almost 1000 US dollars...the high prices of everything here are well renowned throughout Europe. This is why I was so surprised about the prices and the selection in Nexus.

I've now had the opportunity to visit the country's main TRU in Reykjavik, here are a few shots to show what they had on sale:

What surprised me the most was the fact that they had Road Bots for sale, I don't remember seeing them here last time I was in Iceland.

As for Transformers, they had standard Movie toys, no Premium releases like in Hagkaup stores and certainly no Animated. You can maybe see a standard leader Prime and Megs. Also in TRU were Voyager Rescue Ratchet, DLX Final Battle Jazz, Swindle, some small Titaniums, Real Gears, arm blasters, Cyber Stompers etc.
You can also see Classics Jetfire and a 2-pack, Titanium Ultra Magnus and Pulse Cannon FAB Ironhoide. So it's clear that TRU has the least recent stock of the 3 places in Iceland that I have seen stock TFs. It was also the cheapest with Leader Prime being the equivalent of around 84 US dollars compared to the 106 US of Hagkaup. This is much much closer to UK prices for leader figures which is approx 80 US dollars.

So in conclusion, for anyone visiting or living in Iceland who wants a heads-up, TRU has the best prices, but Nexus has the best stock (late Movie and TF Animated and Classics 2.0/Universe) and quite decent prices as well. Hagkaups are extremely easy to find but they are the most expensive but have some interesting stock (TF Movie Premium) that is not available in many European countries currently possibly due to Iceland's close proximity to both Europe and North America.

Nice pics, interesting to see what there is out in other places.

And damn, Classics Jetfire. How much was he going for?

Classics Jetfire was 3499 ISK in TRU, which is the equivalent of 22 GBP and 44 US dollars. Compared to US prices that's bad, but it's basically the same as what we pay in the UK, and for Iceland it's a downright bargain :p

Honestly mate if it wasn't for the TFA and Classics at Nexus, which is a one-off specialty sci-fi store it really wouldn't be that much better.

Iceland's mainstream toy stockists have older stock than the UK with the sole exception of the scattered Premium releases, but the prices of the Premium Movie TFs are pretty bad, especially the leaders. You would be better off buying them from the US and paying shipping.

I hear in the UK we've just got the Animated Activators in addition to the wave 1 stuff and leaders, as well as the prospect of wave 2 very soon and also the Classics 2.0 are out in the UK as well.

In the past I think the wages here have reflected the prices in stores but I believe that's starting to change and people in Iceland fear recessions and economic problems in the not too distant future.

Here's the last installment of the Transformers in Iceland stuff.

I've finished checking out stores that stock Transformers but I did notice something very amusing in a petrol station out in the middle of nowhere, somewhere between the southern Icelandic towns of Selfoss and Hella....

    Notice anything....Transformers-y? ;)

Finally, just for a laugh, I took my Nexus-purchased Animated Starscream on a trip to Iceland's famous and quite incredible iceberg lagoon "Jokulsárlon" for a few on-location shots. Here are the results...

Conclusive proof that Starscream owns Iceland.

Hope you guys have found this set of write-ups useful and interesting.

You should touch base with TrickyDisco, the only TF fan I know in Iceland. Plus she's cute.

At least they have a better selection than we do here in Saudi Arabia. Wish I could get my hands on that Desert Brawl.

Same here, but at a price of almost 120 bucks? No thanks.

The price of things over here is one of the only downsides, otherwise it would be a fantastic place to live IMO.

How come I missed this thread? :lol

Hagkaup's selection sucks. Nexus is awesome. And yes, everything is expensive.

Good to see that Starscream PWNS Jökulsárlón :lol

So, are you back in the UK by now?
