Other than the information from the auction, is there any way to confirm this test shot is not from the new TFCC release?

I am not an expert in prototypes, why would they be marked "Hasbro 1997"???

If it was real and if I had money, I would buy that in a heart beat. Seacons is one of my favorite set.

God Neptune was released in '97, so they're probably test shots for him.

Added to my watch list till I decide if they're worth it or not, my initial feeling is not, although I'd like them all the same.

EDIT: Forgot God Neptune didn't come with the individual bots weapons, the stands, and of course Nautilator. The molds may all have been tested before a decision was reached on which to include, although as a Takara release wouldn't that have been on the copyright? Anyone got a God Neptune to hand to check?

Maybe it's a misprint and supposed to say "1987", like around the time they originally came out.

These are not original G1 prototypes. There were a few sets of these going around when the Seacons were going to be released at Walmart, which later became the OTCC exclusives. Also I have a test shot of the OTCC colored version from a few years ago, and they still have the original copyright date

No wonder that pictured list on ebay looked so familiar to me. I seem to remember those broken parts too.

Any idea how much the earlier sets went for previously?

Like others have said, it's NOT vintage, they didn't make test shots like this in the 80's

It will be a BWII test shot

    Still nice though!

There was a guy who had a full set of 6 figures(not complete) that went for $1800 I think, and then he had a few extra loose ones that varied from $200 - just under $400. These were not from BWII they are from the Encore/OTCC/Walmart release. Just because they are white doesn't mean they are from BWII. Most of them came with red-ish combiner parts, not green.

Edit: Just remember, the first set I ever saw was from a seller in China, and had a buy it now of $800.

I agree that it probably is the God Neptune one, but didn't God Neptune only have 5 of the 6?

    Either way very nice.

Looks like the seller updated the date on auction:

On Aug-14-08 at 04:24:46 PDT, seller added the following information:

Please note, we made an error in the date.... the pieces are listed as 1987.

If thats the case and they didn't make test shots for the G1 toys then these are for the TFCC version.

I sent the seller a message last night asking about their history, think that's what prompted the date change.

    Quote:

    'Dear hollywoodheroes,

Hi, do you have any more background on these? The Seacons were released in '88, a repaint called God Neptune was released in Japan in '97, but it didn't include a lot of the pieces or Nautilator. I'm just curious, I'm not calling their authenticity into question, I'm watching them with a view to bidding, just can't figure out exactly where they fit.
    Cheers, nine-o0

    'Dear nine-o0,

    Hi there-

Well first off, we made a mistake. They are marked 1987, not 97. I fixed it this morning and pland to post a pic. This came directly from a former engineer who worked on the line, other than that... I dont know much. I am sorry. I can reach out to my client and ask him.

I'm now leaning towards them being a test for the OTCC release rather than God Neptune. Very nice either way, pity there's an arm missing, and what's the small piece in front of Nautilator? Looks like a bit of polystyrene, or is it a broken connector of some sort?

A white prototype was shown at Wonder Festival 1998, a few months before God Neptune was released. Lobclaw/Nautilator and individual weapons were also included in that prototype.
