Yeah, because TF fans totally ARE whiners. We should all be very clear about that.

There's already a board rules and regulation thread. It already lays rules for proper conduct of behavior. People just need to actually read it.

Hell yes they are. I myself am a whiner too, but I try and restrict it to whining about the members I find annoying, rather than Hasbro and toys.

I found a cure for all the negativity on this board. I call it "staying the fuck out of the movie forum."

Boards like these used to get me riled, but now I'm just as happy to spend most of my time in the toy forum, where there isn't as much bile being spewed. Hell, I don't even usually like the General Discussion forum.

Not only that, but the ignore function is very nice.

Writing threads like this is sort of like complaining about the amount of violence and porn on your DVD player.

Why would I complain about that? I put it there, dammit!

Yeah, I was in a weird mood this afternoon and clearly didn't think this through. Something compelled me to read eighty pages worth of disowning Transformers forever thanks to Wheeljack's hair and other such madness and it made me a little loopy.

I will defend myself this far...christ, I never said that Hasbro does everything right and that all of our posts should be mindlessly positive. I'm just sick to the point of insanity (obviously) of reading posts that are just dripping "entitlement complex."

For perspective, I like to go to other forums (like ones that start with a number) where trolling is commonplace and some have no qualms at all with saying things like "_____ is absolute shit in every conceivable way, and you are a total ****** if you don't hate it with the fire of a thousand suns."

Certainly makes the breed of negativity one sees around here a lot easier to deal with, at least for me.

Pretty much this. It's why I tend to try to stay in the news rumors and toy forum only too. Yet once in awhile I wander to the others, then have to slap myself for being sucked into stupidity and fanboyism arguments.

You would think so, but trust me, Trek fans really, really AREN'T. TF fans whine, on the whole, much more.

(Probably to do with the fact that most whining is done around merchandise, and there's very little of it about for Trek these days).

Mind you, the TF whiners are out-voiced by the Star Wars collectors. As a member of both groups, trust me - when people are whinging about the particular colour or button on a tiny lightsaber meant for a 3.75" tall action figure (for kids), you know that no other fandom is going to trump it for epic whining.

Back to the topic - yes, there's a lot of "whining for whining's sake" going on, but that's part and parcel of ANY Fandom. People are also entitled to their opinion, as long as it is articulated. I don't mind people not liking something, but please say why you don't! Explain your reaction.

The thing that gets me down is a 12-paged thread where 50% of the comments are along the lines of "this sux", "I'm disappointed", "Epic Fail" etc etc.

    THAT'S pointless whining.

Its a fandom that's pretty ignorant to the whole process, its no different to anything else on the internet.

    I mainly leave em alone.

Some whine, some argue, some reason with others, some explain, its part of being human. Being a member here means you're here to express your opinions.

Doesnt mean you wont get banned....

See, this is why I like creative forums, especially here...likelihood of whining there is reduced to a bare minimum, and self-entitled dribble is far from commonplace.

(Apart from when Draven posts teasers for the next ep of Redemption, at which point I'm as guilty as the rest of the "I wAnTs iT nAOw!" crowd... :D )

Most of the time on here, it's not what people are saying that is the stupid part, but how they say it and the terrible attitudes some have towards anything they don't like or anything new.

Thankfully it's all easily ignored. Unless you want to go back and forth discussing something with someone who won't take anything you've said on board and is really not even interested in anyone elses opinion.

I post if I feel as though I have something to contribute, or am asking about something I have learned that whining exists in abundance, so ignore them mostly (but keep aware of dangers) and make your own path in anything.

'till all are one is too idealistic, but freedom is honorable. Yeeeeeess.

To me, TFW is one of the best boards around for intelligent, humorous, constructive posting/posters.
That's the main reason I joined here and not any of the other sites that may have been an option.
Yes, there are a couple of utter tools on every forum, that's simply unavoidable (and I agree that you sometimes need balls of steel to endure the movie forum!) but for the vast majority, everyone is cool and gets along pretty well, even if their opinions of something are complete polar opposites.
If I want to be negative about anything TF related, I try to stick to comments such as "I don't like this" rather than "this is shit". I'm expressing my opinion, not categorising something as bad simply because I don't like it. One man's MP Grimlock is another man's Universe Galvatron.
And it works both ways too. I personally loathe the Unicron trilogy but some love it. That does not bother me one bit. I love Beast Wars but others think it stinks the franchise up. Who cares?
Just as long as opinions are expressed in context and without throwing insults at individuals or groups of them then I will continue to be happy to post here.

    Long live TFW!

^ This. Exactly. However, it's never going to change. As someone once said, the internet was created to slander things/people anonymously

You get people like that in every fandom, and I reckon they've always been around - but now that pretty much everybody has access to the internet, you notice them a lot more because you share a community with them. Over at PokéCommunity we have RBY and GSC fans bitching that the newer DS games are ruining Pokémon forever; when the new Thunderbirds film came out in 2004 Gerry Anderson fans cried that Thunderbirds had been shafted (...which it had, but they were still not willing to even go to see the film to back up their opinions); when The Dark Knight came out die-hard Joker fans claimed Heath Ledger had destroyed the Joker's reputation by dying, or something. Whilst these fans may have some sane point buried deep within their moon logic, most of them don't want to discuss - they want to lecture, and having 'been in the fandom from the start' they feel superior to newbies who entered it at a later date. And quite often the poor old-school fans who do want a discussion get tarred with the same brush so they keep their mouths shut and let the ranters carry right on, which only worsens the stereotype.

tl;dr whiners are in every fandom, keep calm and carry earplugs. :>

We are all personally responsible for how we react to the stimuli presented to us.

I used to get bent out of shape when people would get bent out of shape. then i realized i couldn't do anything about it. i stopped with the well-though-out, page long posts imploring for things. well i still do it occasionally. weak moments.

People are people. Yeah there's a lot of negativity here. as long as people aren't being needlessly cruel to each other, i just let it roll.

Also, it bugs me when people bring controversial political/religious figures into an argument about toy robots. stop please :)

TF fans are whiners because we're human. and humans are whiners too.
