Wrong, actually. Although Stargate starts off with just the Egyptian base, during the series it becomes clear most, if not all Earth cultures have been influenced by alien involvement (Atlantis was a flying city that was sunk by the Ancients, Scandinavion Mythology is based on the grey aliens, Asgards, etc.). I don't mind them exploring 'Transformers influenced our history and mythology', but if they go all the way with Transformers being Egyptian or other culture's gods, then, yes, it's a straight Stargate rip-off, and I really hope our plotwriting trio is smarter than that.
ah-i only saw the movie once at 4am, so i dont know much about Stargate. but even if the cybertronians were the egyptian gods, it doesnt seem much like a ripoff, as im sure other things before and after Stargate used similar plots. actually, it would be sorta funny if in the movie Stargate was used as a comparison to help someone understand the transformers in egypt thing. although im a little confused-how is influencing our history and mythology different than them being mistaken for deities? (wow i bet i spelt that last word wrong)
We think alike. I dont think its a Stargate rip off at all... Especially seeing as Stargate was based off real life theories that try to explain stuff (all those gliphs of flying things, heavenly bodies, gods, religious beliefs etc.) Other examples would be like The Nasca Lines, Giant pictures in the desert (only perceptable from flying over), Machu Pichu, and pyramids of all kinds and places NOT ONLY in Egypt... Mayans, Toltecs, etc... I think if someone says its a rip off its only cuz the plot device is such a good one (just like Distopian/Utopian settings have been used MANY times... i.e. Bay DID do The Island, which before those clones new the truth... They were in Utopia of a sort. I guess what Im saying is that... In imo, I prefer this plot device way more than the idea of Pretenders.
Stargate had giant sentient transforming alien robots in it too? Wow. I must have blinked, because I sure don't remember them.
THIS... Also, anyone who got the City Commander Set... Am I the only one who thouht of the Deceptions (and their design) from that intruction comic when the Pyramid stuf was 1st mentioned?
iunno if you were the only one, but that is a VERY interesting thing to point out! maybe thats what Cybetronians looked like thousands of years ago, and Egyptians csorta copied that? who knows! maybe Bay got one early and made the movie with the comic in mind or sumthin
I'm not against them doing the omg tranformers in ancient history, really..I just hope they can give an original twist to it! That's all I'm asking. Of course there is much difference between Stargate and Transformers, a-duhh.. but the whole aliens posing as gods is pretty much the whole idea BEHIND Stargate, and I think we can all agree on that we all want Transformers to be something special (and it deserves to be). Saying that there's much difference between Stargate and Transformers is not a valid enough point to me if it turns out they will do the 'transformers are egypt gods' thing. Of course, we don't really know anything anyway. Let's wait and see.
wait and see we will! again, this is just my guess here, obviously nothing concrete. but i dont think they'd be posing as gods, more like mistaken as them. just tossing that out there
^...and the movie's ending scene can be a campfire dance in Egypt after the final battle, with all the autobots doing the do-do-do-do dance with one hand in front of them and the other behind.
Only as long as Arcee does the whole Susanna Hoffs eye thing. Too hot, man (anyone who grew up in that time period knows what I mean)! If they do the historical angle, I just hope it's done in a more subtle way than just saying they were here ages ago and that's just how it is.
i like the idea, atlantis would be cool to. i think the fallen would beter suit set, the egyptian god of chaos. in my personal canon, tfs inspired myths of old.
I mentioned this in another thread. While I understand the Ra connection, I would find that really disappointing, since Ra was perhaps THE most benevolent god in Egyptian mythology, and to make him The (ultimately evil) Fallen would be terrible. Here's what I think... "I think that IF they connect The Fallen to a real god, the best fit for The Fallen would be the Set, who was the god of the desert, chaos, and evil. Historically, Set was once worshiped as the chief god of Egypt, but then there was a sort of civil war where Set was demonized (denounced and imprisoned) and made into the villain of Egyptian mythology. IMO he looks quite a bit like The Fallen in the poster." This is Set:
besides stargate, the fifth element did this. also, indy 4 most recently suggest ancient civilization = teh aliens. feels kinda played out. i think the angle they played in tf1 suggesting modern times tech was derived from aliens is a more interesting subplot. but of course being a bay flick itll just be glossed over
