    Greetings all...

I read somewhere that there will be a reissue of the G1 series on DVD when Transformers the movie comes out in July. Supposed to be redone like the moview reissue, better graphics, sounds and what not.

Was wondering if any one else has heard of this or was i just dreaming it?

I finished collecting the whole series last year that Rhino released.....I wish I had known about this sooner.

Oh well I guess I can use one to watch and the other can stay in package.

I've been trying to find this out for a while. The tf movie reissue only showed that it was "coming 2007", a little vague to say the least. Last winter, i tried to locate the rhino versions but they had already been pulled from retail stock. Can you believe it? They have been ready for this since feb 2006. I can't wait for the remastered editions. They sure made the movie look brand new.

Rhino DVD's are puke. They killed them with all the added sound affects.

Better than good enough - they're terrific. I'm not sure the added effects were a great decision on Rhino's part, but the fanboy outcry about them was just way out of proportion.

Of course, I'd buy a new version if they go through the whole thing and color-correct Rumble.

It wont look as good as you think.
You cant add (resolution-wise) whats not there.
    But instead of 25 dvds itll be maybe 3 - 4 bd/hd-dvds.

Dude. Proper encoding they can do what ever they want with them. Sony has the $$$ to do so too.

What he's saying is that since they weren't filmed in HD, there's only so much Sony or anybody'll be able to do to make them look better. No matter how much $$$ you throw at it.

The Rhino G1 Series version has added sound effects that were not in the originally aired episodes, it totally ruined it for me. Who at Rhino had that brilliant idea in the first place ? Thankfully I didn't buy them.

Those who buy these sets are likely to have seen the originally aired episodes. Who in their right mind would think we want new SFX sounds ? This is a problem in Hollywood. Original E.T. Police with Guns or modified version with Talkies ? Original Star Wars Han shoots first or modified Star Wars Grido shoots first ?

I got : E.T. with Guns and Star Wars original theatrical release version (Han shoots first) The only good exception I can name is the newly original Star Trek TV series with added/modified scenes to make the old look better.

    BUT

Paramount was brilliant enough to offer BOTH versions in DVD's, untouched and modified, so everybody wins.

Bottom line : I'm getting the Sony version, only if they don't add stuff that weren't in the originally aired episodes.

    Godspeed

And which fandom have you belonged to for the past few years? ;)

    Seriously though QFT

I own 'em and honestly I'm not so much of a purist that I'm going to re-purchase them. Only reason I re-purchased the movie was because 1)At $21.99 CDN that's a good deal and 2)With all those special features I got my money's worth more then with the Rhino version

What is this talk of added sound effects? The only areas I noticed added effects, were in the commercial break animations. "We now return to the Transformers"; those breaks.

All I know is that they will be releasing them sometime this year. Probably this spring.
