I held off and held off... then I actually got him and he's FUN. He's not perfect, but just... fun. I personally don't like the ROTF leader one because he's a PITA to transform. This one is SO much easier and still looks good. The arms bugged me at first, but now that I have it, it's not that bad. I picked up an extra at Target in case anyone can't find it wants one... (see sig).

Commercial should have went like this: Ultimate Optimus Prime its big its transormation has been downgraded but hey it comes with a trailer that makes him a big metal butterfly! C'mon kids what are you waiting for! Oh wait your parents showed you Jetwing Optimus with big ass guns and well wings. Ok we failed again with another big product.

Meh,I've seen this in stores, when I first saw pics of it I thought I'd like it,but I don't like it. Sorry to anyone that likes it,but I DEFINITELY don't want a figure with a weapon bigger than a Voyager...shame since I really wanted a full sized Prime with trailer in this line :( . Weapons ring would have been nice...:cry

All I read when i came to this thread was:

    "wine" "boo-hoo" wine wine" boo-hoo-hoo-hoo"

    What are we 4?

I think the toy is a fantastic display piece.

Just because as always a good majority of the fandom here love to bitch and moan about what they think sucks (which seems to be the norm for man-children these days) doesn't make it so.

Kids love it, and this is all that matters.

    Kids happy = Hasbro happy.

    man-children angry/sad = *shrugs* oh well.

I saw it in Kmart WEEKS ago before the first price drop on it and I watched 4 different kids do the same thing mine did - they picked up the box, looked it over and wanted to know why it didn't look like Prime from the movie! My oldest sons are 12 and 9 and the age range of the other kids was probably from 8 to about 14/15. I know this is in no way a real "poll" of what kids think of it but I'm starting to think that us naysayers are not alone in our dislike for Ult Op. I saw him in Walmart last week (6 on the lower shelves and 2 up top) for a solid $60.00 and again, none of the kids I saw looking at TF's wanted it. I am still going to keep watching and see if the price drops below $45 because I might actually get it then and try to do a custom because I have seen some nice customs done here on the boards with Ult Op as the base. I will most likely use a ROTF prime for the core tho.

Just because they're kid's toys that doesn't mean they can't be good. When I was younger there were some toys I just did not like because of the articulation, the look, or just a stupid gimmick.

Yeah, I guess the transforming gun looks kind of fun and the vehicle mode looks sort of cool, but the combined mode looks terrible. He looks nothing like he did in the movie and his articulation is like a G1 toy. The big crotch is ugly and awkward, the colors are weird, and the random details thrown around make him look like a Japanese garbage dump.

Yes, kids usually love the idea of a big toy of their cartoon hero. But this thing, it does not look like Optimus Prime. It looks more like an anime re-imagining of Optimus. The trailer mode isn't even that great since it can't function as a trailer. It also has the HUGE gun sticking out the bottom.

Now for 20 bucks? Not bad. 30? Reasonable. But if I was a little kid and my parents bought me this for over 60? I'd feel a little guilty.

When I was 4 years old (back in 1979), I was already drawing sketches on a napkin of what became MP-01 Convoy. And the actual retail price was going to be $3.99. I also remember my neighbor, he was 2 at the time, and him and I were discussing how Leopaldon sucked because of his lack of articulation. F*ck automorph (he had it), we wanted him to bend like a Chinese contortionist. Actually, I remember about 70 kids (age 1-3) walking in the store and telling their parents they were outraged by it. True story!

There might not be anything wrong with the toy...
    It was wrong alongside Jetwing.

Think i'm one of the only peeps on this board that actually really like this figure. I couldn't wait till it came out in stores and as soon as I saw it at Walmart I grabbed up one.

Gonna buy another tomorrow for safe keeping :)
